WWE Survivor Series 2016: 5 Rumours you need to know

Survivor Series 2016 is set to be a blockbuster PPV

Survivor Series 2016 is definitely one of the most hyped editions of the PPV in recent years. A stacked card sees Raw and SmackDown take on each other in 3 Survivor Series-style matches for the men, women and tag-teams along with the rematch 13 years in the making – Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg.

We saw the men of SmackDown Live invade Raw last week while the women of Raw invaded SmackDown Live on the following night. Tensions between both brands are simmering as we’re less four days away from Survivor Series.

We now know that Shane McMahon will be the last member of team SmackDown and will lead his troops from the frontline. That match also sees SmackDown mascot James Ellsworth come into contact with Braun Strowman – who made Ellsworth famous after crushing him on his first squash match on Raw. Who will ultimately leave Survivor Series as the triumphant brand? It’s a tough one to predict.

Rumours about Survivor Series have been flying thick and fast, so without further ado let’s take a look at some of the latest rumours surrounding Sunday’s PPV.

5: A special appearance by The Rock

The Rock could make a surprise appearance

The Rock made his WWE debut in the 1996 edition of Survivor Series under the moniker Rocky Maiva. WWE have been posting videos celebrating The Rock’s 20-year WWE anniversary all week long, celebrating his illustrious WWE career.

Although there has been no mention or hint about The Rock making an appearance at Survivor Series it all seems very suggestive and the latest rumours seem to indicate that ‘The People’s Champion’ could make a special appearance at Survivor Series 2016 to celebrate his 20 years in WWE with the WWE Universe in Toronto.

4: Shane McMahon interferes to cost Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar F5-ed Shane O’ Mac at SummerSlam 2016

Brock Lesnar and Shane McMahon already have a history after Lesnar F5-ed Shane at SummerSlam when he ran out to try to keep Brock from doing further damage to an already-bloody Randy Orton. Lesnar’s action on the night only cost him a tiny fine from Stephanie McMahon and if the latest rumours ahead of Survivor Series are anything to go by, Shane could play a role in the Lesnar-Goldberg match at Survivor Series.

With Goldberg rusty, lacking ring-readiness and 49, Shane could be the factor that turns the tide in Goldberg’s favour this Sunday. Rumours are suggesting that McMahon could interfere during the match and end up costing Brock. Could this lead to tat rumoured Brock Lesnar vs Shane McMahon match? Hopefully not.

3: The Intercontinental Championship and the Cruiserweight Championship may trade shows

Could Sami Zayn take the Intercontinental Championship to Raw?

One of the biggest rumours ahead of Survivor Series is that the Intercontinental Championship will be headed to Raw while the Cruiserweight Championship will head in the opposite direction.

Sami Zayn will now face The Miz, who beat Dolph Ziggler at SmackDown 900 to win the Intercontinental Championship. The talk backstage suggests that The Miz beat Ziggler so that Sami could beat a traditional heel for the WWE Intercontinental Championship instead of winning it in a face vs face situation.

Raw’s Brian Kendrick will face the returning Kalisto this Sunday with the Cruiserweight Championship on the line. As of now, it looks like the entire Cruiserweight Division will be moving to SmackDown Live if Kalisto ends up winning the Cruiserweight Championship this Sunday. But will Kalisto win this Sunday? Although there’s some chance that both titles will change hands, it’s still pretty unlikely.

2: Goldberg to get a massive sendoff after Lesnar match

Will this be Goldberg’s swansong in the WWE?

We noted an earlier rumour that there’s a chance that Shane McMahon will interfere on behalf of Goldberg to exact his revenge on Lesnar for the F5 at SummerSlam. However, this situation will only come into play if Goldberg wins this Sunday, which is still unlikely.

Rumours from inside the WWE suggest that Brock Lesnar is pencilled in to avenge his earlier loss to Goldberg and if that is indeed the case, this will be Goldberg’s last match in WWE and WWE are planning a big send-off for Goldberg after the match. This could also include a WWE Hall Of Fame induction in 2017 although there are no details on that yet.

1: Either Randy Orton or AJ Styles could cost Team SmackDown to set up a feud with The Undertaker

The Undertaker threatened Team SmackDown with dire consequences if they failed to win

Reports from the WWE ahead of Survivor Series suggest that either Randy Orton or AJ Styles will be The Undertaker’s next feud. Taker appeared on SmackDown Live’s 900th episode earlier this week and suggested that he would be back in action soon and warned the members of Team SmackDown to come back with a win from Survivor Series or that they’d face dire consequences.

The latest rumours suggest that either Orton or Styles could turn on Team SmackDown to cost them the match against Team Raw which would lead to a feud with WWE’s resident Deadman in the near future, most likely at the 2017 Royal Rumble.
