WWE TLC 2014: 5 things that went wrong at the pay-per-view

TLC had to deliver a ground breaking show if it was to topple the success that NXT Revolution had back on Thursday. Though we all knew that the dream was pretty hard to materialize, being idiotic wrestling fans that we are, there were some glimmer of hope somewhere in the corner. And WWE managed to destroy every bit of that hope. TLC was a good pay-per-view compared to a majority of the other shows that the company produced this year, but it was clearly not anywhere near where it had to be.A string of bad booking decisions and lack of future planning might be the things that need to be blamed. In either case, it’s hard to undo what all went down in the show. So here’s a look at the worst decisions that the creative team made at TLC.

#5 Viper goes missing

John Cena and Seth Rollins squared off in a tables match which would’ve ended with everyone winning if Randy Orton had made his return. The Viper coming back and costing Rollins the match would’ve protected Rollins and also would’ve kept Cena as the no.1 contender.

At the same time, the time was ideal for Orton to make his big return. And what did WWE do? They blew the entire opportunity.

They gave Cena the clean win (we’ll get to that soon), they made Rollins look bad and they didn’t bring back Orton. It was a chaotic mess up with an angle that could’ve potentially stole the limelight on Sunday. While all three factors have big implications, it’s the Rollins situation that is going to hurt WWE on the longer run.

#4 Burying Erick Rowan

Wyatt family broke up. Luke Harper was sure to break out as a singles star and he underlined that assumption when he won the Intercontinental Championship. The fans had their doubts about Erick Rowan due to his shortcomings here and there, but he was soon proving his metal.

From the Survivor Series buildup to all the way to TLC, WWE projected Rowan as the next big mid carder in the company but once his match with Big Show ended, all that went away with the wind.

Rowan had a lot of momentum heading into the pay-per-view and a win would’ve actually given some credibility to his singles run. Instead, WWE gave the win to Big Show, who is struggling to evoke any kind of emotion from the fans.

#3 Flat screen monitor defeats Dean Ambrose, seriously

Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose squared off in what was probably the match of the night until they reached the final act. Their bout was hard hitting to the core and it had a lot of intensity as well. However, Ambrose losing because of a flat monitor wasn’t something that should’ve happened.

Was Ambrose too stupid to remove that wire from the monitor? Or was it just WWE’s usual way of thinking that the fans as stupid enough to digest all those crap? Either way, the ending of the match did no one any good.

The fans weren’t happy, Ambrose looked stupid and Bray, he felt like a duck monster who needed some exploding monitor to sneak in a win against the Lunatic Fringe.

#2 Cena wins, again

One of the worst fears that the fans had before heading into TLC was Cena getting a clean win over Seth Rollins. And just like that, our worst nightmare turned into reality when Rollins crashed through that wooden table for the second time.

The Cenation leader winning was expected since WWE didn’t have the hobby of giving the fans something good but what we didn’t see coming was Rollins being booked like this.

He is arguably the most over heel in the WWE roster right now and with a lot of years ahead of him, the writers should’ve been careful about how they book him. They failed to play the Randy Orton card as well and who likes Cena winning like this, right?

#1 Having NXT Revolution just days before TLC

Technically this is not something that went wrong at TLC, instead it’s something bigger. With Triple H running NXT as his personal project, the Revolution show was expected to deliver the goods and it certainly did on Thursday.

TLC, on the other hand, was controlled by Vince McMahon and had to follow up Revolution which blew the roof off. Producing two big shows back to back like that cost WWE big time and clearly exposed that the developmental area is more impressive than the actual thing.

The fans weren’t happy with what they were given on Sunday and the call for replacing Vince McMahon with Triple H has intensified more. This big mess up is sure to draw the fans away from the main product since they could get a much better value for money at TLC.
