WWE TLC 2019: Ranking the potential quality of every announced match

This show could be the sleeper hit of the year.
This show could be the sleeper hit of the year.

With only three weeks of TV after Survivor Series, TLC seems swiftly put together. There were no matches announced before last week's edition of SmackDown but now, we might be looking at a full card.

Sure, there may be some last-minute additions or changes. But as of the end of SmackDown, we have seven matches. Some are exciting but others, not that much.

And for the relative lack of build, TLC looks like it could be a really fun show. As has been the case time and time again, WWE knows how to book a good pay-per-view no matter how much of a throwaway show they might treat it as.

Some of the matches look outstanding and should excel if given the time. Factor in all the tables, ladders and chairs on display and there is some real potential with this show.

Seeds have been planted for some other matches but for now, here is the potential quality of every match ranked from worst to best.

#7 Viking Raiders' open challenge (RAW Tag Team Championship)

This could go in many ways.
This could go in many ways.

The Viking Raiders will defend their RAW Tag Team Championships at TLC, in an open challenge. There are various tag teams, active or returning, who could answer the call. The former War Machine have primarily been wrestling squash matches for their entire time on RAW This Monday, they essentially squashed Street Profits in a matter of minutes.

Hopefully, Sunday turns out differently. Since it is on a pay-per-view, chances are that we will get a more competitive match. Expect a stronger team. Perhaps, the Usos could make a big return or maybe AOP could answer the challenge and even win the titles with the help of Seth Rollins. But for now, the prospects of this match are relatively unknown.

#6 Bray Wyatt vs The Miz

The story will be great, but the match?
The story will be great, but the match?

This is one of the most intriguing matches on the entire TLC card. But it wasn't booked for its in-ring quality. The Miz will take on the Firefly Funhouse version of Bray Wyatt, in a non-title match. This will be Wyatt's first match in his new character, without the mask. This will be completely story-based.

There are many possibilities here, with the whereabouts of Daniel Bryan still unknown. TLC can provide a much clearer picture of what lies ahead for the Leader of the Yes Movement. Other matches on the card will fulfill the in-ring quota for the night, but Bray Wyatt vs The Miz may offer the fans the most creative satisfaction.

#5 Rusev vs Bobby Lashley (Tables Match)

This could get really wild.
This could get really wild.

It may be a crazy thing to say, but Rusev vs Bobby Lashley might be the best-built match on the TLC card. The story between the two has been brewing since the premiere of the new-look RAW, back at the start of October. Boy, hasn't time just flown by? Rusev and Lashley will finally meet in the one match that could contain their bad blood - a Tables Match.

In all seriousness, the hatred between the two heavyweights could make for a very hard-hitting match. This could be a very wild brawl which might just lead to Lana taking an "accidental" bump through a table. WWE should halt the corny storytelling for this match and just allow Rusev and Bobby Lashley to batter each other. The result may surprise fans.

#4 Roman Reigns vs King Corbin (Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match)

Just let them go for it.
Just let them go for it.

Similar to the Rusev vs Bobby Lashley saga, some of the segments in the build to this match have been questionable. There were some cringeworthy moments, as King Corbin attempted to "humiliate" Roman Reigns. Luckily, a TLC match allows these two to do what they do best. They can just have a hard-hitting weapons-based match.

Reigns and Corbin might be the main event of the entire show but they shouldn't, otherwise fans might not take too kindly to the match. Nevertheless, Reigns and Corbin should just go all out in an attempt to wow the WWE Universe and remind everyone just how good they can be, particularly the Big Dog.

#3 Aleister Black vs Buddy Murphy

Sleeper match of the year?
Sleeper match of the year?

Aleister Black has had far too many meaningless matches, after spending months seated in a dark room. He is finally out in the open and will face Buddy Murphy at TLC. This may be the match with the lowest profile on the entire card, but it has the potential to be the best. It is no secret that both Black and Murphy are masters in the ring.

We should expect them to do at least some good with whatever time they get. The Dutch Destroyer had a great match against Cesaro at Extreme Rules, while Murphy spent the last few months of last year and the first few months of this putting on sleeper hits as Cruiserweight Champion. If WWE gives them fifteen minutes, we could be looking at an unlikely late contender for Match of the Year.

#2 The New Day vs The Revival (Ladder Match for SmackDown Tag Team Championship)

A classic in store, perhaps.
A classic in store, perhaps.

The New Day and The Revival always put on at least a solid match at every time of asking. Whether it was at Clash of Champions, where the Revival won the titles or the time when Big E and Kofi Kingston regained them, these two tandems have never disappointed in the ring.

So when this match became a Ladder Match, expectations for this match have certainly lifted. This could be one of the greatest, most well-thought-out Ladder matches in recent WWE history. All four men are tremendous in the ring but watch out for Kofi, who always does something crazy in these kinds of matches.

Whether or not Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder pick up the SmackDown Tag Team titles at TLC, they will surely give everything to make this match a great one. Hopefully, between this and the next match on this list, WWE decides to focus more on tag team wrestling in 2020.

As things stand, the only championship matches on the TLC card are for tag team gold. No singles title match has been scheduled for the show, with less than two days to go. It is absolutely crazy if you think about it.

#1 Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair vs Kabuki Warriors (TLC Match for WWE Women's Tag Team Championship)

This could absolutely steal the show.
This could absolutely steal the show.

While Aleister Black vs Buddy Murphy has the potential to be a technical masterpiece, this match could be absolutely insane. Asuka, Kairi Sane, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch have all had countless great matches on big stages between the four of them, so there is no reason to think that they won't go all out in this Sunday's TLC Match.

Becky, Charlotte and Asuka faced each other in the main event of last year's TLC event, in the same kind of match, or the SmackDown Women's Championship. It was a brilliant match, as every Superstar utilised the weapons effectively. Asuka came out on top that day and with Kairi Sane by her side this time, expect the Kabuki Warriors to grab the opportunity they have been given.

While Roman Reigns vs King Corbin is an option, Kabuki Warriors vs Charlotte and Becky must absolutely be the main event. For one, this has the most potential for more huge spots thanks to the aerial abilities of Kairi Sane, the hard-hitting style of Asuka and the big match expertise of the Man, as well as the Queen.

All four women could potentially put the women's division back on the map after a disappointing Survivor Series main event.
