TNA spoilers: New TNA World Champion, Kurt Angle returns to action and more

Matt Hardy turned heel

Ethan Carter’s latest TNA World Championship run was a very brief one indeed, as Matt Hardy defeated EC III to claim the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at the Impact Wrestling tapings in Bethlehem, PA on Friday.

Hardy shocked the world to turn heel by forming an alliance with Tyrus. In a role reversal, EC III turned face, kicking off an intriguing few months for the former champ. The double turn was teased on the One Night Only tapings on Thursday when EC III showed babyface traits in his match against Hardy.

In the subsequent Impact Wrestling tapings that happened on Saturday, Jeff Hardy confronted his brother Matt Hardy and admits that he is confused by the actions of the champion. Matt cut a heel promo and said that they both should go separate ways, after which Jeff demanded a title shot.

The match didn’t happen, as Jeff had to be taken out by the doctors after a beatdown at the hands of his brother – who was accompanied by his wife Reby and Tyrus. Eric Young, Bram, Kurt Angle and Beer Money (James Storm and Bobby Roode) came out that led to a brawl.

While Kurt Angle was laid to waste by Tyrus, Jeff ate a piledriver through a table of the apron at the hands of Eric Young. It should be noted that ‘New Day’ chants broke out during this segment.

This set up a segment at the next round of tapings – that saw Matt Hardy being interrupted by Kurt Angle that set up a World title match for the main event.

Matt Hardy successfully defended his title in a back and forth main event against Kurt Angle with a little help from his wife Reby and Tyrus. He hit the Twist of Fate from the turnbuckle for the win.

The tapings are set to air on January 19th and 26th, and February 2nd.
