WWE WrestleMania 26: A legendary career is laid to rest in peace

Cena stands tall after defeating Batista

The twenty-sixth annual WrestleMania was produced by WWE and presented by Slim Jim and took place on March 28, 2010, at the University of Phoenix Stadium in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona.

The event card featured a Battle Royal, Triple Threat, Money in the Bank ladder match, No holds barred match and a No DQ match. There was every fan favourite match on the card and the crowd loved every part of it.

The main event between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels was phenomenal as Michaels’ career and Taker’s streak were on the line. All in all, the event was a hit and with all of this said, let us have a look at some of the best moments from the event.

Triple H vs. Sheamus

The Game vs. The Celtic Warrior

Now that Sheamus has been working for Triple H and following the orders of the 'Game', do not conveniently assume that this has been the case always. Sheamus and Triple H fought each other on the grandest stage of them all in a non-title match.

All throughout the match, Sheamus displayed his attitude and proclaimed that he was the future of the company. The Celtic Warrior finally delivered a Brogue Kick to Triple H and tried to follow it up with a Powerbomb.

The Cerebral Assassin countered the move and delivered a Pedigree to Sheamus and won the match. Sheamus learnt that one does not become a superstar just like that in one night.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk

619 time

CM Punk was accompanied by Luke Gallows and Serena and these two guys had a major role in this match. They tried to disturb the proceedings right from the start but the referee was successful in preventing them from interfering in the match.

The two superstars fought well inside the ring and neither ever got the upper hand over the other. Finally, Serena and Luke got involved by distracting the referee and allowed Punk to get Rey in position for the GTS. Rey escaped the move and converted it into a 619 and followed it up with a diving splash and pinned Punk for the victory.

Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon

This is Arizona! Not Montreal

Referring to the famous Montreal Screwjob segment, Vince McMahon warned Bret that he would be really happy to screw Bret at an event like WrestleMania. He also claimed that he has paid Hart's family handsomely and they would turn on him.

But Hart took a jab at Vince saying that he already knew that thing and he absolutely had no issues as his family will always stand on his corner. The Hart Dynasty helped Hart in beating the hell out of McMahon and after this, Hart applied the Sharpshooter on Vince and this made the boss tap out. Hart’s win over the boss was symbolic revenge for the Montreal Screwjob.

Batista vs. John Cena

The Animal defends his title against John Cena

The rivalry between John Cena and Batista was always fascinating to watch and at WrestleMania 26, both men competed in a WWE Championship match. Batista defended his Championship against John Cena in a traditional singles match.

The momentum shifted to and fro throughout the match with Cena delivering a Five Knuckle Shuffle and AA and Batista delivering his Batista Bomb. But both superstars couldn't get a 3 count even after delivering the best they had in store. Cena went ahead and locked in the STFU on Batista and made the Champion tap out. Cena became an 8-time world champion after this title victory.

The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels

Thank You Michaels

The last match of the night and also the longest match of the night was held between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels and this was dubbed as the Career vs. Streak match. Both men applied each other’s finishing manoeuvres but they couldn't get the pin fall.

The Undertaker delivered a Piledriver on the floor and Shawn still kicked out of the move. During all of this, Taker hurt his leg and Shawn capitalized on this and applied several submission moves on the injured ankle of the phenom.

Shawn Michaels hit the sweet chin music thrice, applied several submission holds like Ankle lock, Figure 4 and Crossface but even after all this he couldn't get the phenom down. Taker on the other hand delivered a couple of Choke Slams, Piledrivers, and the Last Ride but he couldn't pin Michaels.

During the closing moments of the match, Michaels made Taker irate by mimicking his cut-throat action. The Dead Man became furious and delivered a jumping tombstone to tend the career of Michaels. Taker went up 18-0 at WrestleMania.
