WWE Rumours: WWE's nixed plans for Shelton Benjamin

The Gold Standard looked to have good plans for him upon his return

Shelton Benjamin was set to return to Smackdown Live very soon, and everyone, from the WWE officials to the fans, have been excited to see the return of The Gold Standard. However, a few days ago, there was disappointing news announced by Benjamin himself that he had a torn rotator cuff and would be going into surgery and thus be in the shelf for quite a few months. It is the same injury that John Cena got and put him out of action for 5 months.

Here is the tweet he put out:

It was reported that Shelton Benjamin’s role would be similar to that of Chris Jericho, which is that of a veteran helping to elevate younger talent and at the same time to elevate the presence of the show.

It is now being reported that Benjamin was being slated for a big upper-mid card push, which would have probably seen him in the Intercontinental title picture, and helping newer talents and perhaps receiving a title run in the process.

Vince McMahon, Triple H and other WWE officials were very high on Benjamin’s past work and were excited to have him back.

It was also rumored that Charlie Haas was being brought back in, and he along with Benjamin would form “The World’s Greatest Tag Team” once again. This would perhaps have helped elevate the tag title picture. But the dreaded injury curse has struck again and has put a stop to all the plans that were chalked out on the drawing board.

Do you think he'll be back after his recovery?
