Tables, Ladders and Chairs is one of the most breathtaking match concept that WWE has ever produced. It was so successful that they made a PPV out of it. Unlike Hell In a Cell, this PPV has actually perforemed quite well and has a few relevant moments of history. For example, this was the first Pay Per View in which CM Punk was the main guy. Yes, he main evented in the classic MITB 2011 match in Chicago against John Cena, but this was the PPV where the management trusted Punk to carry the PPV on his shoulders and John Cena did not make even a fleeting presence. 2011’s edition also saw the crescendo of Zack Ryder’s career when he, on his own power, was booked to win the US Championship. It was all downhill from there, though.
In 2012, Dolph Ziggler won the main event when AJ turned heel but the Brooklyn crowd was firmly behind a heel Ziggler. But there was one match that stole the show from the Showoff- the TLC match between The Shield and Team Hell No and Ryback. The Shield’s debut was also their magnum opus. It showed how entertaining this group is and that cemented their dominating presence for the coming year.
Roman Reigns is now clearly portrayed as the man who shields the Shield. With his power and domination in Survivor Series and the following night on Raw, he seems to be the spearhead of a group which till now was awesome because of its spell binding team work.
The Wyatt Family has a clear leader in their namesake Bray Wyatt. On Monday, Bray Wyatt and his family ‘kidnapped’ Bryan and Punk was stopped by a booming spear by Reigns. The Shield and the Wyatt seem to have joined forces to fight the forces of the mega popular superstars.
This should make the TLC card quite interesting as this story can take an interesting route. The Wyatt can be in alliance with the Authority and if the Shield break up, they could be the go to guys for the Authority. Or the Shield can remain a team and form an alliance with the Wyatts. Just like the two man power trip of the Attitude Era, this could be the Two Team Power Trip of the PG Era. But they should break apart later for a potential feud with each other. The Shield hence remains a team for the foreseeable future.
One of the highlights of last years Survivor Series was the arrival of the Shield. This year, the only highlight was Roman Reigns’ dominance. Last year’s TLC match that Shield had is unforgettable. This year, to mark the first anniversary of their debut match, something special should take place. Either Reigns is consistent with another dominant showing or another Shield member dominates and that sets a future rivalry between Reigns and the other team member.
Maybe Seth Rollins should shine this time, as Ambrose was already quite talked about as the leader of the Shield before Reigns established his dominance.
