The recent WWE draft has brought a whirlwind in the relationship of Paige and Alberto Del Rio as the couple was split up and drafted in separate brands. Paige was drafted to Raw, while her boyfriend was drafted to Smackdown. Other couples, however, did not face a similar fate. Rusev and Lana were drafted together to Raw, while Miz and Maryse went to Smackdown. Even Naomi was drafted to the blue brand alongside husband Jimmy Uso.
Of late, both Paige and Del Rio haven’t quite been able to grab the spotlight inside the squared circle. Del Rio has lost all the momentum from that night in Hell in a Cell where he defeated John Cena clean to grab the United States title.
The 39-year-old went on to feud with Kalisto during the beginning of the year before aligning himself with the League of Nations. The stable fizzled out gradually after their big win over the New Day at Wrestlemania and the self-proclaimed “Mexico’s greatest export” hasn’t found solid footing since.
Paige on the other hand, locked horns against Charlotte in a feud that was marred with controversy. Easily, the most memorable moment from their program was when Paige brought up Charlotte’s deceased brother Reid, during a segment on Raw, sparking tons of controversy and forcing the WWE to issue an online apology.
Hence, the majority of the news surrounding Alberto Del Rio and Paige has stemmed from their real-life relationship, one they went public with back in May. A month later, the couple again garnered headlines, this time, the two were involved in an incident in Las Vegas following the Money In The Bank pay-per-view, but despite reports of Paige being arrested, nothing of note came as a result.
Paige recently took to social media to quash rumours about a split between her and Del Rio, but that has not stopped reports from suggesting that the couple are headed for splitsville.
So going into the draft, there was an understanding that all the couples would be drafted together and that was how things proceeded before Paige and Del Rio were drafted separately. It is rumored that WWE may have pulled the plug on the couple because of Paige’s recent social media posts.
Apparently, the social media posts – especially those on Instagram from Paige about her relationship with Alberto Del Rio – have led to Del Rio getting into trouble in one way or the other and that could be why they were put on separate brands. Paige has since removed these images from her Instagram account.
Meanwhile, Paige was pulled from WWE’s upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, sparking fresh rumours that she was sacked or was pregnant, but her mother – Saraya Knight has quashed the rumours while revealing that her daughter is injured.
