WWE recently announced a major title match involving CM Punk. However, the announcement has sparked intense backlash online from fans.
Following this week's RAW, the promotion officially confirmed that John Cena will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk at Night of Champions 2025, which is set to take place on June 28 in Saudi Arabia. This marks Punk's first scheduled appearance in the Middle East after criticizing the company for its Saudi shows.
Following the announcement, fans erupted on X/Twitter, accusing Punk of being a hypocrite due to his previous stance against WWE's involvement in the country. Many of these posts also mentioned how AEW star Hangman Page was right about The Second City Saint.
"Hangman was ALWAYS right," said one fan

The referencing of Hangman Page is due to his infamous promo during the lead-up to Double or Nothing 2022, where Punk and Hangman were scheduled to face off for the AEW World Championship.
In the promo, Hangman reportedly went off-script and warned viewers about Punk. The World Wrestling Entertainment star allegedly took offense to the promo, and it later contributed to his eventual exit from Tony Khan's promotion.
While Punk recently clarified on Instagram that he never hated going to Saudi Arabia, the backlash has continued online.
A major AEW show's cancellation was linked to WWE star CM Punk
The Young Bucks' YouTube series, Being The Elite (BTE), was officially discontinued in late 2023, and recent reports suggest CM Punk may have played a part in its cancellation.
The AEW EVPs started BTE in 2016, which played a pivotal role in the launch of All Elite Wrestling in 2019. However, a month before its final episode, Dave Meltzer reported that CM Punk's legal team allegedly sent a notice to The Bucks regarding a possible violation of a non-disparagement clause.
Recently, Matthew Jackson revealed on his YouTube channel that discussions have been held about making BTE: The Movie.

While speculation continues online, due to the legalities surrounding the matter, fans may never know for sure if Punk was the reason for the cancellation.
