5 Reasons why Vince McMahon is probably furious after AEW Double or Nothing

AEW Double or Nothing just happened. The fans have spoken and it seems to have been a resounding success. The event started a little rough but ended on a high. It was a buildup throughout the PPV which didn't let the audience down, the ones in the arena and the ones watching at home.

As they say on the internet, the hype is real. Sure, there was some parts of the show that didn't come across well. The camera work was shoddy at times as it didn't catch some of the moves of the high flyers. The wrong video played on the titantron at other times. The opening Battle Royal was a bit of a mess. But, all of that didn't matter in the end.

Here's where AEW delivered. There were surprises that no one was expecting. There was fantastic in-ring action from unknown wrestlers. The show, while long, was paced very well and it ended in a fantastic finale, which drove the audience at the MGM Grand crazy. Sin City was alive and well. More likely, if WWE were not paying attention before, they certainly are now.

When I say WWE, I mean the one and only Vince McMahon. The things that happened probably made him furious as well as the rest of the McMahon family. Some were obvious while others...probably not so much. So, let's get into it.

#5 WWE Superstars supporting or acknowledging AEW Double or Nothing

Say What?

While the wrestling industry is huge, a lot of WWE Superstars have a friend or a loved one in AEW. It was recently reported that AEW is being taken seriously by WWE as competition amongst many others. There were also rumors that after AEW Double or Nothing, Vince McMahon was furious at the WWE Roster.

Some of the WWE Roster showed their appreciation for the event, which included the likes of Sasha Banks, Matt Hardy, Peyton Royce, Karl Anderson and Heath Slater. Imagine that during the Monday Night Wars; Triple H and Kevin Nash giving each other high fives over social media.

So, it's understandable that Vince would be furious over WWE talent expressing support for the other side. On the other hand, it's unavoidable. The industry is no longer defined by those parameters. But, considering Vince's rumored reaction, it's quite obvious that AEW did something right.

#4 Bret Hart appearing to reveal the AEW Championship at Double or Nothing

Say what?

Imagine that! AEW got one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all time to reveal the new AEW World Heavyweight Championship. This is literally barely a week after Mick Foley revealed the WWE 24/7 Championship, which was considered a disaster by fans on first impressions.

Was this deliberate? It's highly doubtful that AEW knew that WWE was presenting a 24/7 title in the same week, as it was rumored for a while that their world title would be showcased at the Double or Nothing PPV. But what was surprising was that Bret Hart would be the man to do the reveal.

Considering Bret Hart and Vince McMahon go back a long way and their WWE history, it was a shock to see the WWE legend in an AEW ring. It's probably safe to say that Vince McMahon was probably not happy seeing that.

#3 The Elite openly mocking WWE attendance figures

Did someone say records?

One of the things on Kenny Omega and The Young Buck's show, Being The Elite, were the constant jabs at WWE. At one time, they openly mocked WWE for retaining their wrestlers and paying them large salaries without giving them anything to do. This has been a reported issue as WWE were possibly interested in signing Joey Ryan so that he wouldn't go to AEW.

Before the main show at Double or Nothing started, The Elite announced that Double or Nothing broke an attendance record at the MGM Grand with 20,000 people attending the premier event. It's a well-known fact that WWE has fudged their attendance rates at their bigger pay per views such as WrestleMania.

While it's fun for the fans, Vince McMahon may not be too thrilled that a rival company is openly mocking them in that fashion.

#2 Cody Rhodes Breaks Triple H's Throne

Break It Down!

Let's make this very clear. It's very different to mock someone and make a joke at their expense. It's quite another to build an exact replica of Triple H's Barbarian Throne from WrestleMania 22 and then destroy it with a sledgehammer. This isn't a joke. This isn't a job. This isn't 'taking a shot.' This is a declaration of war.

True, it was more about the theme of the match where Cody Rhodes pledged that he would kill the Attitude Era. But why did he pick HHH's throne? He could have easily taken his brother's (Goldust) old mask and clothes and burnt that instead. Nope. He was making his intentions clear.

While it's unclear that Triple H would be upset about this, Vince McMahon is a different animal altogether. He is not certainly one to take that lying down. The battle has only begun.

#1 Jon Moxley Debuts in AEW

As I said, believe the hype. When Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose) entered that ring, the crowd at the MGM arena popped big. It was rumored for a while but people were unsure whether it was a red herring. But the man who was nicknamed The Lunatic Fringe is finally in AEW. Moreover, after delivering a modified Dirty Deeds to Chris Jericho and the referee, his reaction on the ropes was almost a sign of relief.

He was breathing in the fact he was back being who he once was and it was clearly seen on his face. Moreover, he just cut a promo which was released by AEW Wrestling's Twitter account. He says,

One day, you will all come to my funeral, just to make sure that I stay dead, but today is not that day. I'm alive! My heart is still beating and I'm breathing fresh air for the first time in a long time. My name is Jon Moxley and I'm on a mission to reclaim my soul.

Now, WWE made it a point to give Dean Ambrose a proper farewell which is rarely done. It can be speculated that they thought he just needed time off and recharge his batteries. But it looks like he was just looking to break free and declare his independence.

The one man who is probably more irked than anyone else is Vince McMahon.
