During its lifetime, many series like Naruto and Bleach have marked their end. Soon after the ending of the Naruto series, its successor series Boruto began serialization. Although the actual reputation and the overall quality of the Boruto manga still remain a topic of debate, it does not deter from the possibility of a sequel.

Recently, a few snippets from one of Eiichiro Oda's old videos in 2020 resurfaced. In the official YouTube video, he jokingly mentioned his wish to write Two Piece as a successor to his series. Although this was meant to be a joke, the majority of the fandom has expressed their disdain and apprehension for this idea.

Fan reactions to Eiichiro Oda's past comment

The major sentiment towards the possibility of a sequel has been negative with many fans outright rejecting the idea. Few fans have also come forward to express how Oda needs to take a very long break especially since his series has been going on for almost two decades.

A few fans have also expressed that it would be better to just let this series end without a sequel. They'd rather have Oda write a Gundam story, which he supposedly mentioned during his early days.

"No thanks. Let the story end with the ending of one piece. I’d rather Oda makes his Gundam idea personally. That would be fun to read I bet!" one fan said.

Some fans took the opportunity to mention that content related to the older generation of pirates would be much more preferable to a sequel.

"I’d rather we get a prequel with Roger, Garp, or even Joyboy maybe," another fan said.

Another fan took the opportunity to express how absurd it would be to follow this series for two entire decades and then be compelled to read a sequel. This further emphasized that this series itself should be a fully contained story.

"Imagine waiting 20 years for one piece to end just to be baited into reading a sequel," another fan wrote.

One fan mentioned how the series has already been ongoing for so long that it has already lost many fans throughout its serialization. If Oda decides to start a sequel then it is highly unlikely that the original fanbase of the series will survive.

"No legacy please Rather have a new character," one fan shared.
"Won't be able to survive another 25 years tbh. After One Piece is over, all manga and anime should too." a fan wrote.

Although the series' decades-long serialization might make it seem like there will be no sequel, it is still highly possible that a sequel or a spin-off story could come out after the series' completion.
