What is the latest Rent-A-Girlfriend controversy about?

As fans must remember, the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga has recently been focusing on Kazuya's date with Chizuru. Considering the manga has been serializing since 2017, fans were eager to see the two finally end up together. Therefore, when the manga revealed that Chizuru had rejected Kazuya, fans quickly took to the internet to criticize the series' plot and characters.
Fans had already made it clear how much they disliked the protagonist Kazuya Kinoshita for how he tried to win over Chizuru. Thus, while they did not sympathize with Kazuya, they could not understand why Chizuru did not say yes despite everything he had done for her.

To make matters worse, Rent-A-Girlfriend chapter 380 featured Chizuru expressing her love for Kazuya and her family on several occasions. Consequently, fans were left even more confused about why she was rejecting him.
Notably, many fans believed that Chizuru prioritized her career as a rental girlfriend over her feelings, labeling her the "worst female anime character."
Fans' reaction to Rent-A-Girlfriend manga's latest controversy
Most anime fans shared the same opinion: they believed Chizuru Ichinose to be the worst female anime character. It did not make sense to them that she loved Kazuya yet prioritized being a rental girlfriend over dating him.

While other fans shared the sentiment, they felt that the protagonist, Kazuya Kinoshita, deserved what was happening to him, especially given how much money he mindlessly spent on her to try to impress her.
"If this holds true, she would definitely be up for consideration of “worst girl”," one fan said.
"MC is pretty terrible too. Paragon of simping," another fan added.
"She don’t owe him a relationship big homie," another fan argued.
"Bro has 0 reading comprehension," other fan said.
Amid this, some fans attempted to defend Chizuru, expressing that Kazuya's acts of kindness did not mean she owed him a relationship. Several fans believed that the majority of the fanbase was only furious at Chizuru because she did not act as they would have expected after such acts of kindness.

Lastly, some fans expressed disbelief at other fans' lack of reading comprehension. With Chizuru's rejection, the manga made it clear that she did not explicitly reject a relationship with Kazuya. Given her situation, she felt she could not date him "right now" and had informed him as such.
