The New York Yankees have finally addressed their outfield issues with the acquisition of Franchy Cordero. The Dominican lefty is coming off spring training and is expected to be a part of the 40-man roster.

The Yankees were desperate for outfield cover and took a gamble on Franchy Cordero. The 28-year-old will provide some much-needed cover for Aaron Hicks, Estevan Florian, Oswaldo Cabrera and Harrison Bader, who are fighting for the final outfield spot.

While many expected to bring in some top tier pitching talent, the club decided to focus on offense. Franchy Cordero is known for his powerful swing and ability to hit rockets into the outfield.

New York Yankees fans were excited about the addition of one of MLB's most powerful sluggers to join the club, which was keen to add an experienced outfielder to the lineup after an injury to Harrison Bader and poor performances from Aaron Hicks.

During his time with the San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox, Cordero has proven he is capable of competing at the highest level.

The young outfielder has a lifetime .221/.290/.386 slash line and a .676 OPS. In 227 games, he has recorded 21 home runs, 74 RBIs, 144 hits and 91 runs.

The outfield has been a problem area for the New York Yankees. A recent injury to former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Harrison Bader has left a gap in the position.

Oswaldo Cabera and Estevan Florian are the favorites to start in left field on Opening Day. Giancarlo Stanton is another option along with Isian Kiner-Falefa.

Franchy Cordero will offer some much-needed depth in the outfield. Last season, the fast-paced outfielder finished with eight home runs, 29 RBIs and 53 hits in 84 games.

Many fans were hoping the Yankees would bring in switch-hitting Bryan Reynolds to the lineup from the Pittsburgh Pirates, but that the move never materialized.

For now, Cordero provides some depth to a team that will hope Bader's injury is not too serious. The Yankees outfield is still considered one of the the most dangerous in MLB.
