Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav came up with a spectacular knock of 72* runs in the second ODI against Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.

After being put to bat first, Shubman Gill (104) and Shreyas Iyer (105) scored resounding hundreds. The duo added 200 runs for the second wicket after India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early. However, both of them lost their wickets within 27 runs before Suryakumar came to the middle in the 41st over.

After milking four singles in his first nine balls, Suryakumar changed his gears and entertained the crowd in Indore with some exuberant strokeplay.

Maneuvering himself according to the field, the 33-year-old smashed the Aussie bowlers to all parts of the ground. In no time, he completed his second consecutive fifty in only 24 balls.

Clobbering six fours and as many lusty maximums, Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten at 72 runs from just 37 balls. His explosive innings propelled India's first innings total to 399/5.

En route to his 72*, Suryakumar tumbled a slew of records. Here is a compilation of three such millstones that Suryakumar Yadav reached during his 72*-run knock vs Australia on Sunday.

Cameron Green bowled the 44th over of the innings, which saw a threatening version of Suryakumar. He started the over with the back-to-back sixes off his hips before sending one into the crowd over deep extra-cover.

The fourth ball of the over was also dispatched over deep mid-wicket, making it a quadruple of sixes. In doing so, Suryakumar became only the third Indian after Zaheer Khan (vs ZIM in 2000) and Rohit Sharma (vs SL in 2017) to hit four consecutive sixes in an over in ODIs.

Suryakumar, who has been a warrior in T20Is, showcased his mettle in the 50-over game as well.

His strike rate of 194.59 is now the highest by an Indian with a 70+ score in an ODI innings. Suryakumar surpassed Rishabh Pant on the list. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 77 runs off 40 balls at a strike rate of 192.50 in an ODI against England in Pune in 2021.

Indian fans would hope that Suryakumar retains his form and comes up with similar performances at the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as well.

The Australian bowlers were at the receiving end of Suryakumar's mayhem. The Aussie bowlers had no idea how to go about and erred in their line and length regularly.

As mentioned earlier, the flamboyant Mumbai batter dashed away to his half-century in only 24 balls. This is now the fastest ODI fifty by an Indian batter against Australia.

Overall, Suryakumar's 24-ball fifty is now also the sixth-fastest in the Indian ODI history.
