7 iconic venues where Sachin Tendulkar failed to score an international ton

India v Pakistan - ICC Champions Trophy
Sachin Tendulkar- The God of Cricket

Sachin Tendulkar- A stalwart who carried the burden of Indian cricket for 24 long years and made his country proud at a global level through his talent and determination. He is one of the main reasons why cricket has become a part of Indian culture.

Considered as the 'Greatest Batsmen of All Time', Sachin has dominated all of his opponents across different formats, which is why he is renowned as 'God of Cricket'.

Australia v India - Fourth Test: Day 4
Sachin is the only cricketer to score 100 international centuries

In his prolonged career, Sachin played 664 international matches and scored a whopping 34357 runs across several international venues in the world. With 164 half-centuries and 100 centuries, he undoubtedly tops the list of players with most 50s and 100s.

The landmark of 100th hundred came back in 2012 against Bangladesh in Asia Cup after a long gap of 15 months. In 2013, Sachin put an end to his illustrious career, playing his 200th Test in international cricket (only cricketer to do so).

Sachin faced some of the best bowling attacks in cricket history, and smashed them in their own backyard. He is one of the few batsmen to have a hundred in all the top cricket playing nations.

Sachin's unfavourable record

Though Sachin has scored 100 centuries across all formats of the game at different venues, he, unfortunately, failed to score a hundred in some of the most iconic venues around the world. Let's have a look at the list of 7 famous venues where Sachin has never scored an international century:

#7: Eden Park, Auckland

New Zealand v England 1st Test: Day 4
One of the smallest grounds in the world

Eden Park is one of the most beautiful and oldest grounds in the world. The multi-sport stadium has hosted some of cricket's best matches, including the unforgettable 2015 World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa where the latter suffered a heart-breaking loss.

Sachin's best innings in this ground came in an ODI match against New Zealand in 1994. Promoted to open the innings, Sachin scored a blistering knock of 84 runs off 49 balls which is one of the defining moments in India's ODI history.

#6: The National Stadium, Karachi

First Test - Pakistan v South Africa - Day Five
Sachin made his debut in this iconic ground at Karachi

Being a fan of Sachin, no one would forget the National stadium located in Karachi. In 1989, Sachin made his debut in international cricket at this ground against the mighty Pakistani bowling attack.

Though he has a tremendous record in Pakistan, Sachin faltered on many occasions against the pace and bounce offered by Karachi pitch.

"I thought the first innings of my life in Karachi will also be my last"- Sachin about his debut and the injury sustained during the match.

#5: Galle International Stadium, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka v England: 1st Test - Day Two
Galle- Best in producing one of the most turning tracks in Test cricket

Sachin has had some of the best battles against the Sri Lankan bowling attack in Sri Lanka. Though the Island nation is one of his favourite hunting nations, he continued to flounder in the dust bowl at Galle.

However, once, he got a chance to score a century in the 2nd innings at Galle (2010) but he got trapped LBW by the veteran Lasith Malinga. Sachin's 84 runs off 142 balls in that innings eventually saved the Indian team from a humiliating innings defeat.

#4: The Kensington Oval, Barbados

2017 HERO Caribbean Premier League - Barbados Tridents v Trinbago Knight Riders
One of the oldest venues in the world

Only a few batsmen had the technique and grit to survive and dominate the West Indies attack in 1990s, Sachin being one among them. His best knock in this particular Caribbean ground came way back in 1997 where he ripped apart the West Indies bowlers to score a flawless 92 off 147 balls.

During that series, Sachin faced one of the lowest moments in his career as captain due to horrendous results and considered quitting cricket due to such humiliating losses.

#3: The Gabba, Brisbane

Sheffield Shield - Bulls v Warriors: Day 2
Australia's den, which always welcomes the touring nation with steep bounce

Sachin always picked Australia as his favourite team to play with because of the challenge imposed by them on and off the field. Scoring against Australia in Australia has been a daunting task for many cricketers, not so for this man.

The Australian team always brings out the best version of Sachin, rising above their banter and sledges. Sachin has centuries at all the venues in Australia except for Brisbane. Brisbane has always been regarded as Australia's den because of their formidable record at this particular venue.

The pace and bounce offered at this venue put the overseas batsmen in some awkward positions. His best knock of 91 at this ground came in a Triangular ODI series v Australia in 2008.

#2: Kingsmead, Durban

South Africa v Australia - 1st Test: Day 1
A typical sub-continent ground in South Africa

Durban is one of the iconic venues which missed out from Sachin's list of international centuries. After their readmission to international cricket, Sachin was part of Indian squad for the monumental tour to South Africa in 1992.

Though Sachin was part of India's tour to South Africa 4 times, he couldn't make a mark at this venue in the rainbow nation. He went past the 50-run mark for just one time in Tests when he scored 63 runs (2006).

#1: Lord's cricket ground, London

T20 Triangular Tournament - MCC, Nepal & Netherlands
Lord's London- The Home of cricket

Every cricketer's wish would be to have their name at least once on the "Lord's Honours Board". Sachin is one of the legendary batsmen to miss out on the honour in the 'Home of Cricket".

Though he has scored a century at Lord's for Rest of World XI in a match against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), his international record at this venue seems to be a bit under-par when compared to his standards.

Sachin travelled to England on several occasions, but he didn't even cross the 50-run mark here with a mere high score of 34.
