This was the first of Malinga’s three ODI hat-tricks

Lasith Malinga's prowess as a limited-overs specialist are legendary. So it is no surprise that he is the bowler with the most hat-tricks in ODI history and the only bowler to take three ODI hat-tricks. Yet, he also became only the third bowler to lose, despite taking a hat-trick.

It was the Super-eight of the 2007 ICC World Cup, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat against South Africa. They didn't make the most of it though as they were bundled out for 209. In reply, the Proteas were cruising to victory until Malinga gave them a scare.

Needing just four runs to win, Graeme Smith's side lost four wickets in four balls, including the set Jacques Kallis to crumble to 207/9. However, it still wasn't enough as SA won with a wicket in the bag.
