None of the batsmen could get going and the Indian bowlers took full advantage of the brittle English batting. Kapil Dev was the most successful Indian bowler and he picked up 3/35 runs from his 11 overs.

India chased down the target comfortably in 54.4 overs with half centuries from Yashpal Sharma and Sandip Patil. Sharma was the top scorer of the match with a 115-ball 61 as India comfortably beat the hosts by 6 wickets.
