India and England rivalry in the World cup started right from the first Cricket World Cup in 1975, when the two teams came face to face on 7 June 1975. Playing at the Lords, the English team outworked the Indian team and gained a huge victory by 202 runs. DL Amiss scored a whooping 137 runs in that match along with CM Old who scored 51 runs off 30 balls. Sunil Gavaskar owed India’s loss as he scored only 36 runs off 174 balls.


The next India vs England match took place on 22 June 1983 at Manchester where India won the match by 6 wickets, and later on the Cricket World Cup as well. England put a target of 214 runs for India which India easily achieved with the innings packed with half centuries by Sandip Patil and Yashpal Sharma.

The next encounter against England was seen on 5 November 1987, at Mumbai where once again England won the match by 35 runs. The century of Graham Gooch helped England put a score of 254 runs which could not be reached by India, even on their home ground. Mohammad Azharuddin was the top scorer for India with 64 runs off 74 deliveries.


The match on 22 February 1993 was a breathtaking match and India vs England Head to Head stats should be counted for that match with a special mention. The English team set 236 runs on the board due to the fifties of Gooch and Smith. However, India could only manage to 227 runs, hence lost by 9 runs.


The fifth India vs England match was played on 29 May 1999 where India won the match by 63 runs. The English team was allout for only 169 while chasing a target of 233.


In the sixth encounter of India vs England in the Cricket World Cups, India again put a score of 250 runs with Dravid and Yuvi taking a lead. However, the bowlers forced the English to stop at 168 and India won the match by 82 runs.


In 2011 World Cup you could really see how well is India vs England rivalry. India put a score of 338 in 50 overs. However, even England reached the match tying score of 338, thereby making the India vs England Head to Head record as 3-3 in the ICC World Cups.


The last time they met in ICC World Cup 2019 where England won by 31 runs in which Bairstow scored a century for winning cause, while Rohit's century went in vain. Shami took a 5 wicket haul.
