The IPL 2020 auction is right around the corner, and all the eight teams would be busy with their plans and strategies for the mega event which will take place on 19 December in Kolkata.

As many as 971 players have put their hat in the ring to go under the hammer. However, there are only 73 vacant spots up for grabs, and it would be interesting to note how each team will fill in their remaining places.

Seven foreign players have set their base price at INR 2 crore. But not all of them would be in great demand, while a couple of them would likely go well beyond that amount.

Here's a look at three of these players who could get huge bids at the auction:

1. Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn is in red hot form at the moment. The Kolkata Knight Riders released him at the trade deadline, but they might bid for him again in the auction.

Lynn has the skills to provide explosive starts to any team. The aggressive right-hander scored 371 runs in eight innings in the recently concluded Abu Dhabi T10 league, at an average of 53 and a blistering strike rate of 236.30. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament, and was instrumental in the success of Maratha Arabians.

The hard-hitting batsman has a rich IPL legacy too; he has scored 1280 runs in 41 IPL matches at an average of 33.68 and a strike rate of 140.66. Teams like Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which need a top quality opener for their lineup, could go big for him in the auctions.

2. Pat Cummins

Australia's fast bowler Pat Cummins has terrorized some of the best batsmen in the world over the last couple of years. Cummins has the skills to bowl at express pace while also being right on the money with his line and length. It's not without reason that he is the number one Test bowler in the world.

Cummins can move the new ball a big way and he would be a terrific asset for teams like Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, who need a foreign pacer in their side.

The Australian pacer can be equally effective in the powerplay and the death overs. Cummins can also contribute some handy runs in the lower order, and his current form with both bat and ball makes him an even more valuable commodity.

The right-arm pacer has played 16 IPL matches in which he has scalped 17 wickets. We can expect the bidding for Cummins to go through the roof at the auctions, as everyone would want a piece of him.

3. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell can change the course of the match in a matter of deliveries. He has the skills to get off the blocks in a jiffy, and he would be a great addition to any IPL squad.

The Australian batsman can play at a blistering strike rate, and take the game to the opposition with his big hitting. He can also contribute with the ball, and his fielding has often been the talk of the town.

The all-rounder had taken an indefinite break from the game to deal with the stress he was facing, but he would now be looking to make a roaring comeback through the IPL.

All the eight teams know what Maxwell brings to the table, and it would not be a surprise if he starts a bidding war between the franchises. Teams like KKR, KXIP and RCB, who need firepower in the middle order, could go big for the Australian.

Maxwell has played 69 IPL matches in which he has scored at a staggering strike rate of 161.3.
