About IPL Auction 2023 News Updates
IPL Auction 2023 will be the first mini-auction after the Board of Control for Cricket in Indian (BCCI) added two new teams last year to reaffirm its status to a 10-team event. The IPL auction 2023 is reportedly said to take place on December 16 in Bengaluru.
Ahead of the auction, the BCCI has aimed to bring back the regular home and away formats after conducting three IPL seasons in bio-secured bubble environments to contain Covid-19.
The salary purse for the 10 franchises is likely to be INR 95 crore, which is 5 crore more than last year’s mega auction salary cap for players. Franchises can also trade players through the IPL trade window by November 15, the deadline will close at 4:30PM on the particular date.

IPL Auction Rules
Teams will have the option to retain and release their choice of players ahead of IPL auction 2023. A franchise’s purse is determined by deducting the total amount of released players’ salary from the total amount spent on purchasing all players in the previous season (IPL 2022 auction). The released players along with the additional ones can register themselves for the IPL auction 2023. The list of players will go under the hammer based on their categorisation. A franchise will have to bid for the base price of a player. If multiple franchises are interested in a player’s services then they will be engaged into a bidding process until one franchise puts the final bid and the rest back off. By the end of the auction each team needs to have a minimum of 18 and maximum of 25 players in their squad. A team cannot include more than eight overseas players in their squad.
Who is the auctioneer of IPL Auction 2023?
British auctioneer Hugh Edmeades has conducted the last three IPL auctions. However, during the two-day mega auction in 2022, Edmeades had collapsed on the stage on Day 1. Veteran Indian sports presenter Charu Sharma replaced Edmeades and took over the auction duties.

Does the IPL Auction happen every year?
Yes, the IPL Auction occurs every year. However, the IPL mega auction does not happen every year. It takes place once every three or four years. The 2011, 2014 and 2018 auctions were mega auctions, while the others were mini auctions only.
