The Indian Premier League conducts annual auctions as a way for teams to acquire their desired players. Players who are listed in the IPL auction have to sign up with a base price. Different franchise teams bid on the base price and the highest bidder signs the respective player.
The IPL craze has already begun with the reliable news of the IPL auction 2020 date . Every year the auction takes place in a span of two days and becomes an exciting prospect for both franchise teams and fans around the world.
It is known that the IPL 2020 auction will take place on 19 December in Kolkatta. Last year, there was some degree of uncertainty about the date and venue for IPL Auction because of the general elections 2019 which was held in India. There was a possibility of the auction venue to be moved to South Africa or be partly conducted in the United Arab Emirates, which was the case in 2014, the last general election year.
There was also a possibility of the whole IPL tournament to be shifted to a different venue due to the elections in 2019. This has been the sole reason the franchise members were anxious to know the venue of the tournament before they get on board with auctions.
A franchise official said “We wanted the auction to be conducted after the venue is known so that we could have chosen our players accordingly but the BCCI has its own timelines to follow,” while another official said, “We understand that the venue would be known by then.”
