Ram Punjabi is a former Indian cricket umpire. Born on 10th June 1928, Ram Punjabi along with Jiban Ghosh was recognized as an official match referee by ICC in the year 1979. Ram passed away on 25th February 2018, in New Jersey at the age of 90.


Umpiring career


Ram began his umpiring career in the 3rd Test in the West Indies tour of India at Kolkata on 29th December 1978 which ended in a stalemate. On 27th January 1982, He began his career in the ODI setup in the 3rd ODI of England tour of India at Cuttack.

Ram officiated 7 test matches and 2 ODI matches in his 3-year career as an umpire which came to an end in September 1982.


Retirement


Ram Punjabi called it a day bringing his umpiring career to an end in just 3 years. On 9th December 1981, He played his last test match in the 2nd Test between England and India at Bengaluru where the spoils were shared amongst the two. Eight months later, on 12th September 1982, he represented his last match in the Sri Lanka tour of India where India won by 78 runs.
