Rohit Sharma became the first man to score three double hundreds in international cricket after he compiled an unbeaten 208* runs from 153 deliveries with 13 fours and 12 humungous sixes in the second ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. With this, he also helped Team India level the Paytm series 1-1 with the final match to be played at Vizag.

Currently, Rohit sits on the second position on the list of most number of hundreds since 2015, with Australian opener David Warner topping the list with 12 centuries.

Not being a part of the team that lifted the World Cup at Mumbai in 2011 would have hurt Rohit. When he returned to the side, he struggled for form with nothing to show for his efforts barring a few fifties, six of which came against the West Indies.

It all changed for him in 2013, when he was sent up the order to open the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan in the Champions Trophy held in England.

He has not looked back since then.

Rohit scored his first double hundred against the Aussies at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, and become the third Indian after the great Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to do so.

He scored 1196 runs in the year 2013 and soon after that, scored a massive 264 runs against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens to register his second double hundred.

And now, the Indian stand-in skipper has scored his third ODI double hundred, becoming the first cricketer ever to do so.

Rohit now tops the list of individuals with the most number of double hundreds with three to his name. Sachin, Sehwag, Gayle and Martin Guptill are the other members of this elite group with one double hundred each to their name.

Belinda Clark of Australia is the only female cricketer with a double hundred, which she scored against Denmark at the Middle Income Group Club Ground, Mumbai in the year 1997.
