Sports psychologist Sandy Gordon set to be hired by the Indian team: Reports

India are currently trailing Australia 0-2 in the four-match Test series

The Indian team management is set to acquire the services of famous sports psychologist Sandy Gordon in the course of the ongoing third Test against Australia at the MCG. India are currently trailing Australia 0-2 in the four-match Test series and have a gruelling few months ahead of them with the ICC World Cup in Australia & New Zealand soon following the Test series.

As per a CNN-IBN report, the decision to rope in Gordon was largely to do with the positive influence the Perth-based psychologist had when working with the Indian team during the 2003 ICC World Cup. At the start of that World Cup, India were at one of their all-time lows after just going over the line against minnows Netherlands and being decimated by Australia.

Gordon was consequently appointed to work with the team on the mental aspect of the game, and the move worked wonders as there was a quick turnaround in their fortunes and deservedly reached the final of the World Cup before losing to Australia.

After the tournament, the team of 2003, which consisted of greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, themselves attributed the presence of Gordon as one of the instrumental factors in them reaching as far as they did.
