England finally emerged as the World Champions after being runner-up in three out of the first five editions — 1979, 1987 and 1992. The Eoin Morgan-led England clinched a victory against New Zealand in the finals of the World Cup 2019 on the merit of hitting more boundaries.

The twelfth edition of the World Cup was expected to be a high scoring event prior to the commencement of the tournament. However, what came about was a good contest between the bat and the ball, owing to overcast conditions and tricky decks.

Ahead of the tournament, a score of 350 was considered to be a par total in the World Cup, however, only a handful of 350+ totals were scored all through the tournament. A total of 31 centuries were scored individually in this World Cup, including 22 centuries in a winning cause.

Here are three batsmen who finished with the most number of centuries at the end of the World Cup.

Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan enjoyed a fantastic run of form as the top-ranked all-rounder had a World Cup to remember. He performed exceptionally well as an all-rounder for his team and was a force to reckon with at the No.3 position in the batting order.

The southpaw finished the tournament with the best batting average (86.57) in the competition, having scored two centuries and five half-centuries in the tournament. Besides accumulating 606 runs, the left-arm orthodox spinner also picked up 11 wickets.

The 32-year-old Shakib played a brilliant knock of 124 runs off just 99 balls while chasing a mammoth target of 322 runs against West Indies. This was also one of the best knocks in this World Cup, considering the fact that chasing was pretty difficult in the tournament.

Owing to a fine show with both the bat and ball, Shakib also bagged three MoM awards for his wonderful performance throughout the tournament.

Besides Shakib, four batsmen, namely Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Aaron Finch also managed to score two centuries each in the tournament. However, considering the fact that Shakib played lesser matches than the aforementioned four, Shakib features in this list.
