England and Australia begin their Test cricket rivalry, called Ashes, in 1882. The Ashes series over the years has seen many big totals scored by teams in typically batting conditions.

Ashes Highest Innings Total (In a single innings)

The top five highest team totals in Ashes series have all come in England with four of them in London (three at Kennington Oval and one at Lord’s). The fifth highest total came at Cardiff.

Even though these totals came in England, four of them were notched up by Australia except the highest scored by England. England’s 903/7 dec in the 1938 series is the only total exceeding 900. The other four are in the space of just 55 runs.

Ashes Highest Team Total (In a single match)

Although England has the feat of scoring the Ashes highest team total, Australia has the highest match aggregate in an Ashes test.

The Aussies scored 701 in the first innings and 327 in the second innings in a Test in the 1934 Ashes series to aggregate 1028 runs in the match. This is the only occasion of a team scoring more than 1000 runs in an Ashes test.
