World Cup 2019: Match 29, New Zealand vs West Indies Match Prediction - Who will win today's match?
New Zealand have been brilliant so far and have won 4 out of 5 games. They are coming off a win over South Africa at Edgbaston and are looking in good touch. They will almost be assured of a spot in the semis with a win in this game but they must not take the West Indies lightly knowing what they can do from their loss to the side during the warm-up matches.
West Indies have faded away after a brilliant start and desperately need an inspiration of some sorts from some of their senior players after 3 losses and one NR from 4 games has ruined their brilliant start.
Both these sides need the win desperately and with this clash set to be a pretty interesting game, let's take a look at who has the edge ahead of this encounter.
If New Zealand bat first
There have been a couple of good batting displays from the Black Caps but they haven't unleashed their full might yet and will be looking to do so against the Windies. The likes of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro can cause serious destruction while skipper Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor will be looking to propel the side to a huge total and defend it.
With Old Trafford clearly favouring the batsmen, a total of around 330-350 can be expected from New Zealand.
If West Indies bat first
West Indies have a lot of stars in their batting lineup but unfortunately, they haven't fired in unison and they will need to do so. Chris Gayle needs to bat responsibly along with the likes of Shai Hope with players like Andre Russell lining up during the death overs. West Indies don't have a spinner to exploit the turning nature of this surface and need to score more runs accordingly.
Expect a score of around 340-360 from the West Indies.
Who will win?
Though New Zealand are in good form, the West Indies who are in search of a win will be a bigger threat and their firepower can carry them past the finish line. Back West Indies to win this one.
