Game Freak announces 2026 title, and it's not Gen 10 Pokemon

Game Freak has finally revealed a new title slated for release in 2026, and it is not Gen 10 Pokemon. For most people, every time Game Freak's name turns up, it is about Pokemon. However, the Xbox Games Show 2025 shocked everyone, as the Japanese developer dropped the trailer for a new IP altogether, titled Beast of Reincarnation.

While Gen 10 leaks for Pokemon are floating around, the new title appears to be a souls-like, action-adventure game instead. In this article, we will explore all that was revealed in the official trailer.

Generally, you would immediately think of Gen 10 Pokemon when you see the Game Freak logo in 2025. With a confirmed release date for Pokemon Legends Z-A, the next big goal seemed to be Gen 10 — or so we thought, as the new Beast of Reincarnation is completely off the norm for this developer.

While existing titles from Game Freak had your Pokemon fight other Pokemon, you wield a katana to fight behemoth bosses yourself in Beast of Reincarnation. Set in a distant future in the year 4026, you play the protagonist Emma, who fits into the typical "savior" role, as is implied by the last voice line of the trailer:

"You are the blade that will destroy the Beast of Reincarnation."

Although Beast of Reincarnation was a pleasant surprise, it had been revealed years earlier under a different name. Codenamed Project Bloom, this title was initially teased in 2023 and was being developed by Private Division, a publishing label under Take-Two Interactive that was sold off in 2024.

Game Freak is all set to release Beast of Reincarnation in 2026. Although no official date is currently known, the game will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from Day 1.

On the other hand, it seems that we might have to wait a bit more to hear any official news about Pokemon Gen 10 from the developers. And while Gen 10 is likely to bring in new Mega evolutions, the beast shown in Beast of Reincarnation is not Mega Gogoat, despite the resemblance being uncanny.
