Resident Evil 9 Requiem gets release date following announcement

The past few days have witnessed numerous strong hints toward a new Resident Evil game. From the voice actors of RE6 hosting the Future Games Show segment to Capcom being confirmed as an official partner of the Summer Game Fest 2025 without teasing anything specific, everything added up to it.

After few clever fake-outs during the main event, Capcom delivered. Resident Evil 9 Requiem has been revealed and it is set to release on February 27, 2026.

Capcom teased fans hard before announcing Resident Evil 9 Requiem

The build-up was quite wild. First, Maggie Robertson, who is the voice actress of Lady Dimitrescu in RE8 Village, made a surprise appearance on the big screen of the Summer Game Fest. She stayed in character and delivered a few cryptic lines, ending with:

“Still thirsty? Worry not. There’s plenty more fun to go around.”

Many thought that a new game reveal was coming, but instead, she simply announced a Capcom publisher sale. This segment lasted about 30 seconds and left the fans scratching their heads.

Later, Capcom showed up again, and this time, the screen even flashed the iconic RPD (Raccoon City Police Department) logo. Maggie Robertson returned and introduced a small message from Jun Takeuchi, the executive producer of the RE franchise. He simply asked the fans to be patient and hinted that more news would come when the time was right. This left some disappointed as two dedicated Capcom segments were featured with no relevant information or announcement.

Finally, after another wave of trailers and gameplay reveals from other publishers, Capcom made one last appearance. This time, a cinematic trailer began with an FBI office scene. A senior agent discussed a strange new case with a younger female agent. He asked her to investigate a hotel where her mother had been murdered. She started seeing a few flashbacks and then suddenly woke up hanging upside down and trapped. We then see some glimpses of an abandoned city with multiple cryptic voice lines in the background.

Then it happened, the words RE9 and Requiem appeared on the screen, finally confirming a new Resident Evil title. Resident Evil 9 Requiem will release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. After all the build-up, Capcom may have ended the show with what the fans wanted.
