Laurent Mekies is a French engineer serving as the Racing Bulls' team principal in Formula 1. He was born on April 28, 1977, in France. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from École Supérieure des Techniques Aéronautiques et de Construction Automobile, France. In 2000, Mekies graduated from Loughborough University after doing a master's and was placed as an intern in the Mirandi F1 team.
After working with them for two years, he then became the chief race engineer for the Toro Rosso F1 team in 2005. In the 12 years of working with drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, he helped Vettel become the youngest F1 race winner. From 2014 to 2018, Mekies also served as an FIA race director.
