#3 RB Leipzig | €92 million

As is the norm with RB Leipzig, young superstars have been sold and replaced by younger talents this summer.

Star centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate have departed for Bayern Munich and Liverpool, respectively. Mohamed Simakan and Josko Gvardiol have been signed for a combined fee of nearly €34 million to replace them. Portuguese striker Andre Silva has arrived for a fee of €23 million after an excellent season with Eintracht Frankfurt .

Apart from these players, full-backs Angelino and Benjamin Henrichs have joined the club for a combined fee of €33 million. Angelino, in particular, enjoyed a good stint under Leipzig's former manager Julian Nagelsmann.


#2 Aston Villa | €106 million

Aston Villa did sell Jack Grealish for €117.5 million to Manchester City, so it is not surprising to see them spend heavily to replace their talisman.

Villa have been smart in the transfer window thus far. They have signed Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City for €38.4 million, striker Danny Ings from Southampton for €35.2 million and Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen for €32 million. These three forwards are expected to replace Grealish's output this season.

The versatile Ashley Young has rejoined the club after his contract with Inter Milan expired. Young is expected to provide cover to the full-back positions, and can play further forward if needed.

Aston Villa have also been linked with Lens midfielder Cheick Doucoure, with the Mali international attracting interest from Arsenal as well.

As mentioned already, Manchester City have spent €117.5 million to sign forward Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Apart from that, the club continue to pursue Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane, who is likely to cost more than Grealish. City have also signed young Brazilian forward Kayky for €10 million from Fluminense, but the 18-year-old will move to the club in January 2022.

Veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson has joined City on a permanent deal. Carson has been the third-choice goalkeeper at Manchester City since 2019, and is regarded highly by the players and manager Pep Guardiola. The England international made his first appearance for Manchester City last season.
