Manchester City are plotting to make a move for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann in a £70m move according to Daily Mirror. The Sky Blues will have to battle with their cross-town rivals Manchester United and also Chelsea who already have been heavily linked with the French forward and will rival City in a war of bids to land the 25 years old.

Jose Mourinho is known to be a huge admirer of Atletico's talisman and sees him as a long-term replacement of Manchester United skipper, Wayne Rooney. On the other hand, Chelsea have also been linked with a big-money move for Griezmann.

The forward, who has been drawing parallels with the worlds' elites with his outstanding performances for Los Colchoneros and Les Blues could now trigger a war among the Europe's big clubs.

The talismanic Frenchman was the major force behind Atletico Madrid's great run in La Liga and their road to Champions League finals. He also was the Player of the tournament in Euros 2016 and led French national team to finals with some inspiring performances.

Griezmann has again been in great form so far this season, racking up 8 goals and 5 assists in 13 games so far this season for Los Colchoneros.

Man City have been looking at strikers to bolster their attack and were heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Manchester club has been spending a lot in the transfer market since Sheikh Mansoor's takeover and now with Pep's arrival at City, they're looking to be a major force in Europe.

The Sky Blues have splashed a lot of cash to get Europe's best talents and now, a move to land the French forward could give their Champions League title hopes a huge lift.

Although, the Frenchman penned down a new contract with Atletico Madrid to stay put until 2021 at Vincentè Calderon. His decision appears to have been evoked by his belief that the coach Diego Simeone will remain at the club who was said to be considering his future after facing a defeat for the second time by Atletico's fiercest rivals, Real Madrid in Champions League finals.
