Joel Matip is the type of player who puts in a great shift almost every game but is still overlooked by the majority because of his headline-grabbing teammates.

This is understandable given that he’s in a side with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah. Even more sympathy could be expressed when you realize that one of the main players in the squad is Virgil van Dijk, who plays right beside the Cameroonian, casting a shadow over him both metaphorically and literally.

However, with that said, Matip’s performances for the Reds have been consistently solid since the season began, and the 30 points he’s accumulated thus far is a respectable amount and one which most managers would be content with.

Considering that Matip is £1.0m cheaper than Van Dijk and collects around the same amount of points as the Dutchman, who’s currently only three points ahead, you haven’t got much to lose by putting your faith in him.
