Manchester United transfer news round-up: Chelsea to hijack Griezmann's move, Perisic scouted by Mourinho and more

Griezmann had earlier expressed an interest in a move to Old Trafford

Chelsea to hijack Griezmann deal

Chelsea have entered the race to sign the in-demand Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, according to reports from The Sun. French forward has been linked with a move to Manchester United for the last 6 months. In another report, Manchester Evening News are certain that Griezmann’s transfer to United is only a mere formality now.

However, Chelsea are willing to match United’s £86m bid and could lure Griezmann to London with the prospect of challenging for the Premier League and Champions League.

A similar situation occurred when Eden Hazard was subject to a transfer war between Chelsea and Manchester United with The Blues ending up as the winner, courtesy their Champions League success. However, Griezmann being a United supporter, The Red Devils may have the advantage in signing the 26-year-old star.

Keane made his international debut aganst Germany last week

Former Manchester United youth team coach Paul McGuinness believes that Jose Mourinho should re-sign Michael Keane. Jose Mourinho has been linked with several world class central defenders in the last few weeks and is certain to spend over £30m to find a suitable central defender.

McGuinness was quick to point out to Keane’s impressive debut for England earlier this week and suggested that the Manchester United manager must sign the former United star this summer. McGuinness said: “A year or so ago, United were being linked with Hummels. If you watched that game against Germany and you were looking for a player for the future, you’d pick Michael Keane above Hummels.

“He’s quicker, better in the air and decent with his feet. He’s not as experienced as Hummels but he knows the club, he’s a United player really in that sense, so he’d tick a lot of boxes. He has the potential to be a really top player. He’s smoother on the ball or at least as good as the central defenders United have at the moment, so of course he could [be successful].”

Redan is part of Ajax’s Under-19 team

Ajax have confirmed that their highly rated youngster Daishawn Redan is certain to quit the club later in the summer. According to Daily Star, Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed an interest in the 16-year-old star, who is inclined towards a move to Old Trafford.

Redan has twice scored 40 goals for his youth side and has already started to play for the Under-19 side. Redan has been at Ajax since the age of eight but the club have failed to convince him to sign a professional contract.

Speaking on Redan’s exit in the summer, Ajax youth coach Said Ouaali said: “We have mapped out a path for him and there is depth discussions with him and his management. That there is no agreement at the last moment is extremely regrettable, obviously, they have put something else on their minds.

“We have made every effort to maintain a great talent as Daishawn for the club but at some point it stops. We wish him all the best with the rest of his career.”
