The summer transfer window has officially come to a close in the English top flight with the clubs spending a total amount of £1.79 billion on 419 deals, according to The Guardian. Kieran Tierney, Alex Iwobi and David Luiz were some of the big names involved in the deadline day deals.

Although the window is closed, the clubs can still sell their players to a different league, but cannot complete any signings of their own. Harry Maguire will finish the summer as the most expensive transfer as Manchester United dished out £80 million for him. The most expensive export could still change but the chances are very slim. So far it is Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid for a sum of £88.5 million-plus addons.

With the Premier League kicking off in a matter of a few hours at Anfield, let us look at the winners and losers from this transfer window.

Losers: Manchester United

Manchester United did complete some good signings. They made the most expensive Premier League signing of the summer by landing Harry Maguire for a record fee. They also brought in young Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace. However, they didn't achieve their primary mission of giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a good squad to work with.

Ander Herrara has left a gaping void in midfield. Romelu Lukaku left for Inter and now Marcus Rashford is the only natural striker in the team. There is still a huge cloud over Paul Pogba's future. Zinedine Zidane wants him for next season but now, if Pogba is adamant on leaving, United are likely to only accept cash and not other players as part of the deal. Letting Pogba leave will further damage this transfer window.

Bruno Fernandes was rumoured to land at Old Trafford throughout the summer, up until the last minute of deadline day, and even he didn't arrive. Looking at the squad right now - with a dire lack of depth and proven players and not many quality reinforcements available - it doesn't look likely for this team to break into the top 4.

Solskjaer has a mammoth task in hands to try and get a UCL spot with this squad. There was a need for signing top-quality players for many positions and only Maguire seems the only who satisfies this. A bad window for Ed Woodward and United, who could've lured Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Bruno Fernandes and many more top quality players, have had a poor transfer window.

Winner: Mauricio Pochettino

The duo of chairman Daniel Levy and manager Mauricio Pochettino continue to move forward. They have been taking a step forward in every way, from not signing anyone last year, to moving to a new stadium. This year they took a big step when they broke the club transfer record by bringing in Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyon.

Ndombele is a highly mobile midfielder who has all the skillset necessary to succeed at the highest level. He is a great dribbler under pressure and completes almost 5 dribbles at a success rate of over 80%. He also completes around 50 passes with a similar success ratio. His high mobility is a threat in transition as he provides a bit of everything spread across the pitch. He can pass, dribble, run hard, intercept, tackle, and cover the whole length of the pitch because of an unbelievable engine.

But just when we thought that will be it from Spurs, they announced Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon before a few hours of the transfer deadline. Lo Celso is a creative midfielder who'll be a valuable addition. Ryan Sessegnon can be used anywhere on the left side. He is young and can be groomed according to Pochettino's style. Spurs also offloaded Fernando Llorente after the expiry of his contract and Keiran Trippier, who moved to Atletico Madrid.

What else does Poch need now? He has his 'fab-four' kept intact despite all sorts of rumors of Christian Eriksen joining Real Madrid. Eriksen reportedly isn't the prime target and has himself stayed away from all drama, so possibly, he'll stay. He has got his midfield recruitment and left-back. No signings were made for right-back but they still have Kyle-Walker Peters and even Juan Foyth who played there for Argentina fairly well.

Pochettino has a well-rounded squad with great players, and this is a good enough squad to challenge City and Liverpool on all fronts. He has no excuses now. This is an able team and far from the underdogs they were labelled as.

Loser: Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha's hope to move to a Top 6 club was tarnished by an outlandish price tag

Wilfried Zaha loses out in the transfer window and it isn't even his fault. Zaha, who has been performing considerably well at Crystal Palace in the last three seasons, getting his goal and assist output into double digits each time, was poised to move away.

There were bidders for him, too. Everton looked at Zaha as an option but they were priced out of a deal and had to turn their attention away and sign Alex Iwobi from Arsenal instead.

Crystal Palace raised their asking price to around £80 million, which was not a feasible one for both Arsenal and Everton. The team management's stubbornness in trying to milk other clubs for a player like Zaha seemingly backfired on them.

Zaha now has to let go of the past, put his head down, and go again. That's the only option he has until at least next January. He dreamed of playing European football but he won't be doing that, for now.

Winners: Arsenal FC

For a club that were reported to have an estimated budget of £45 million, Arsenal have done stupendously well. They let Aaron Ramsey leave to Juventus for a free and had a huge job to do with the defensive improvements. A bid for Zaha had failed after Palace presented an asking price too high for Arsenal's liking.

In the last few weeks, however, Arsenal turned up the heat. Nicolas Pepe's £72 million deal was announced, William Saliba's deal was announced a bit before that, Dani Ceballos was roped in on loan from Real Madrid. This gave Arsenal the reinforcement they need in attack, defence (although Saliba was loaned back to St. Etienne) and midfield.

On deadline day, Arsenal signed David Luiz for a meager £8 million and also Kieran Tierney from Celtic. This will do more than enough for Arsenal's backline for the time being. David Luiz is one of the best ball-playing center-backs in the league and a decent defender. Arsenal loaned Saliba back to St. Etienne and they can afford to do that. Rob Holding, Sokratis, David Luiz are very good, with Shkodran Mustafi looking more and more unreliable with each passing game.

Reiss Nelson is back after a loan spell at Hoffenheim, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are still in the team, so letting Alex Iwobi's departure would not hurt them as much. Enough wing options are present, the midfield is good too, the defense has been reinforced pretty well. This was a great window for Arsenal.

Winner: Eden Hazard

Hazard in the Whites of Real Madrid: A new step in his career
Hazard in the Whites of Real Madrid: A new step in his career

The biggest winner from the transfer window has to be Eden Hazard. With all that was going on at Chelsea - a squad not good enough to support his abilities and a coach too rigid to change his tactics, Hazard gave his everything to propel Chelsea to a Europa League title and a 3rd place finish. Without Hazard, it might not have been possible.

But staying for one more season would really have dampened Hazard's talents. The transfer ban means that the squad has not changed much when they were in dire need of reinforcements.

Hazard realized his dream destination, which was Real Madrid, and he'll possibly be the go-to man at the Santiago Bernabeu. It is a team that favours Hazard, that can help him to win more trophies, that can boost his chances at individual awards, and he'll also face bigger challenges in LaLiga - an entirely different setup than that in England.

For Eden Hazard's career, this transfer has couldn't come in a better way or better time. He left as a Chelsea legend, he'll be loved in Madrid, he can engrave his legacy in Spain. Hazard is the biggest winner in this EPL transfer window.
