Epic Games' Fortnite Battle Royale continues to be one of the most popular games, even half a decade after its release. The majority of its playerbase consists of young adults and school-going teenagers due to its cartoonish graphics and pop-culture collaborations. Clearly, many of those with a School Chromebook wonder if they can play the game on their device.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic significantly changed the education system, shifting most of it online. Several schools offer their students Chromebooks to complete assignments and attend online lectures. The sleek and portable devices have become a new trend in education, and many students worldwide have one.

The lack of a decent PC build or console at home has left many students wondering if they can play Fortnite on a School Chromebook. While the answer to that question is positive, the process itself is complicated.

Note: Students may need permission from their educational institutions to play on the given Chromebooks.

School Chromebooks are built for light work, such as creating documents, spreadsheets, and attending online classes. Most of them do not have hardware strong enough to run a game like Epic's Battle Royale. Moreover, the software on many of these do not allow students to download and play games.

Fortunately, there are a few ways that can help them play Fortnite on a School Chromebook.

There are two easy ways to run the battle royale game on the said device without using developer tools. Students can either use Nvidia GeForce Now or a remote desktop setup to play it on their devices.

Nvidia GeForce Now

Cloud-gaming services like Nvidia GeForce Now have made it possible for players with low-end PCs or incompatible devices to play heavy games. You can opt for free-play with low graphics for an hour every day or go for paid plans with better graphics and more game time.

School Chromebooks can also run Epic's title using GeForce Now. You simply have to sign up for the free plan on the website and choose Fortnite. Unfortunately, GeForce Now is only available in North America and Europe as of now.

Remote Desktop

If you have a desktop as well as a School Chromebook, you can use Google's Remote Desktop mode to play Fortnite. While this is a much more complicated process, it isn't just limited to Europe and North America, unlike GeForce Now.

To set up Remote Desktop Mode on School Chromebooks, follow the steps given below:

  1. Head to this link and download the required software. Once you have it setup on your Chromebook, do the same with your desktop.
  2. Once you have the Remote Desktop Mode set up on both devices, generate the code from the "Get Support" option on the desktop and enter it into your Chromebook.
  3. Once you can remotely access your PC, you can start playing Fortnite on a School Chromebook. You will need to have the battle royale game installed on your PC in order to make this work.
