How to get a Combat Shotgun in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

The Combat Shotgun was first introduced in Fortnite during Chapter 1 Season 9. Unlike its contemporaries, this particular shotgun was created with the intention of being a mid-range weapon. With a decent rate of fire and tight spread, most enemies stand no chance of escaping unscathed.

Unfortunately, this shotgun has spent more time in the vault than it has in the loot pool. Thankfully, it's been added back to the loot pool in Chapter 4 Season 1. Although it's not the easiest weapon to obtain in-game, it's not impossible to acquire either.

The Combat Shotgun reigns supreme in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1

The Combat Shotgun has been included in the loot pool of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, but not directly. Players won't be able to find this weapon lying around on the ground or come across it by searching chests. As it stands, there are only two ways to obtain it in a match. Here's how:

1) Tactical Armory Reality Augment

With Augments playing a major role in Chapter 4 Season 1, it comes as no surprise that the developers decided to add in a few that provide players with weapons, with one of these being Tactical Armory.

Once selected, players will receive a Combat Shotgun and Tactical AR. Although both of these weapons are "Rare," compared to other options in their class, they are a cut above the rest.

That said, although this method of acquiring the Combat Shotgun is the easiest, obtaining the Tactical Armory Augment is not. It's one of the rarest to come across in-game. This brings players to the second method.

2) Defeat an opponent and take the weapon or have a teammate take the Tactical Armory Augment

If players haven't discovered the Tactical Armory Augment yet, they can always defeat an opponent that has opted for it and take the Combat Shotgun from them. It should be noted that since this Augment is one of the rarer ones, there's no telling which opponent has it activated.

The only way to know if they have a Combat Shotgun is by engaging them in combat. Since the weapon is a mid-range option, players will easily be able to distinguish it from other shotguns in the loot pool.

Presently, the best alternative is to ask a fellow teammate to select the Tactical Armor Augment if they come across it during a match. Once they select it, they can drop the Combat Shotgun for someone else to pick up.

Is it worth using the Combat Shotgun in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1?

The Combat Shotgun is one of the best weapons there is in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1. However, considering that it functions very differently from the Thunder and Maven Auto Shotgun, it's not well suited for beginners.

Given that it's ideally a mid-range weapon owing to its extremely tight spread and small reticle, it's not useful in close-range or face-to-face combat. Although it's still powerful, beginners would most likely miss shots with this shotgun.

For this reason, the Combat Shotgun is best left to experienced players for mid-range combat in open areas. Using this weapon indoors is not advisable as opponents will easily be able to dodge the concentrated spread of pellets and return fire faster.
