After the Fortnite 22.20 update, numerous map changes were implemented in-game. Although the spread of Chrome took prominence, another minor change created headlines. Three new platforms were added to the island.

Given that Chrome is spreading, it can be assumed that these platforms were added to give players some verticality. However, unlike other platforms in-game, these feature a runway and a ramp at the end of it.

With X-4 Stormwing poised to be added to the game soon, there's no doubt that these platforms will serve as a staging ground for them.

With that said, here's where to find Planes, aka X-4 Stormwings/Biplanes, in Chapter 3 Season 4.

East of Beach Bash and other Planes or X-4 Stormwings/Biplanes locations in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4

1) Launchpad (Island) - Far East of the Herald's Sanctum

The first of these runway platforms can be found on Launchpad island. It is located in a tiny archipelago just off the eastern coast of the mainland. Given that it's far off the coast, reaching it will take some resourcefulness.

Players can use the Chrome Tornado next to the Herald's Sanctum and redeploy their glider to reach the island. All things considered, this is the fastest and safest method to reach the destination.

Alternately, players can use Rifts located at Seven Outpost VII or Seven Outpost III to redeploy in the sky and dive towards the Launchpad island. When Motorboats are re-added, they can also be used to reach the destination.

2) Shell or High Water (Landmark) - Northeast of Chromejam Junction/Southwest of Shiny Sound

The second location where one can find Planes in Chapter 3 Season 4 is a bit harder to get to. Situated between Chromejam Junction and Shiny Sound, this runway platform is stuck between a hard place and a rock.

The best option for players to reach the runway platform at Shell or High Water is to rotate on foot. Tamed wildlife such as boars, wolves, and chickens can be used to move faster. Alternatively, launch pads (items) and shockwave grenades may also be used to get a decent boost in mobility.

With all that said, if possible, players should try and land at the landmark as quickly as possible to secure a plane. With the northern part of the island being a perpetual hot-drop zone, it's better to rush things than approach it strategically.

3) East of Beach Bash (Landmark) - Southwest of Reality Tree/Northwest of Greasy Grove

Although this Plane spawn location in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 is rather well hidden, getting to it is easy. It's about the same distance when approached from the Reality Tree and Greasy Grove.

Players who land at Reality Tree can cut through the forest on foot to reach the runway platform. Those who choose to land in Greasy Grove can gear up, rotate to The Driftwood anchored nearby, and use balloons atop the pirate ship to rotate. Given how close by it is to the runway platform, it won't take long to reach.

With the Reality biome being a hot-drop area due to Alteration Altars, players may find themselves under constant fire from opponents. Thankfully, due to the thick foliage present in the biome, they can find some protection from incoming projectiles while advancing toward the runway platform.

When will Planes (X-4 Stormwings/Biplanes) be added to Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4?

Although Planes are supposed to be added today (October 25, 2022), it seems that the update has been postponed until the end of Fortnitemares. It may still be possible to have them added via a hot-fix, as the Week 6 "Take a Biplane through a rift" challenge requires players to use them in-game.

What transpires is left to be seen. In addition to Biplanes, more runway platforms will likely be added. By rough estimates, a total of four to five will be present by the time Chapter 3 Season 4 ends.
