The 8th season of the Indian Super League (ISL) is perhaps the most awaited edition of the Super League. Sports across the world including India was suspended in March 2020 due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Indian Super League 2019-20 final was played behind closed doors in Goa. With no resumption of sporting action in the country since the virus outbreak, ISL will have a responsibility to execute a league of this magnitude with perfection amidst the fear of the virus.
The 8th season of the ISL Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) the organisers of the league have picked up the window between 19 November 2021 and March 2022 as the possible time frame to host the league. The 8th edition will be played behind closed doors in Goa due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic. Most teams have begun training in Goa as foreigners arrive into the state for the season. Games will be played at Fatorda Stadium; Bambolim Stadium; and Tilak Maidan in Goa.
Players are being asked to go into 7-14 day quarantine periods with 3 Coronavirus tests before they begin training with the team upon arrival in the Bio Bubble in Goa.
The ISL 2022 is slated to kick-off in November third week. It will be the second football event to be resumed in India after the I-League Qualifiers 2020-21. The fixtures of the Indian Super League 2022 has been announced.

The ISL will witness some renewed rivalries as Mohun Bagan (now merged into ATK Mohun Bagan FC) and East Bengal FC will face Bengaluru FC in the ISL after parting ways in the I-League in 2017. Games between Kerala Blasters FC and East Bengal FC are also likely to turn into rivalries as both sets of fans are already engaging in pre-season banter on Social Media.
Odisha FC and Hyderabad FC will play their third season of the Indian Super League in the 2022 season. Odisha FC was renamed from Delhi Dynamos FC after shifting to Bhubaneshwar, Odisha from the National Capital. Hyderabad FC was formed after the closure of FC Pune City.
Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC will play their fifth season in the ISL. Original ISL teams like FC Goa, Mumbai CIty FC, Chennaiyin FC, Kerala Blasters FC and NorthEast United will play their 8th season in the Indian Super League.
The Indian Super League has witnessed an A-League exodus. Teams have brought in players like Bradden Inman, Scott Neville, Gary Hooper and Steven Taylor from the A-League.
