China have climbed four spots to occupy the second position in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 standings, courtesy of a 4-2 victory over Malaysia on Monday. The Chinese have three points and a goal difference of -1, having scored four goals and conceded five.
Korea have retained the third position in the standings with a 2-2 draw against Pakistan, who are fourth with two draws from as many games. Both teams have a goal difference of zero.
Malaysia and Japan are placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with one point each from a couple of encounters. They have drawn and lost a game apiece and have a goal difference of -2 and -4, respectively.
Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India and China register convincing victories; Korea vs Pakistan ends in a draw
Jigwang Hyun opened the scoring for Korea in the 16th minute as they took the lead against Pakistan. Hannan Shahid scored a brace in the 60th minute to help his side take a 2-1 lead with a few seconds to go on the clock.
Sunghyun Kim scored a field goal with eight seconds on the clock to force Pakistan to split points with Korea.
Later in the day, India tharshed Japan 5-1 to extend their winning lead in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024. Sukhjeet Singh scored a brace, while Abhishek, Uttam Singh, and Jugraj Singh scored a goal for the defending champions.
Kazumasa Matsumoto was the lone goal scorer for Japan in a one-side encounter against favorites India.
China, meanwhile, beat Malaysia 4-2 on home soil. The Malaysians failed to convert several penalty corners and lost the important clash.
