A not-so-excited looking Temba Bavuma limps away to collect the ODI trophy. He then joins his teammates as they pose for the photographs and celebrate. Not the manner South Africa would have wanted today to transpire but it does not take away the fact that they are deserving winners of the series and been the better team throughout its entirety. They would perhaps want to be much better next time when a dead rubber comes up, now that it has happened twice to them. Both the teams will now travel to Cardiff for the start of the 3-match T20 series which begins on Wednesday (Sep 10). England will have all the momentum and South Africa will know that it is a fresh series where they have a world-beating team as both these teams fine tune their preparations for the upcoming T20 WC. Join us in a couple of days time then as this is Sourabh Agrawal taking your leave on behalf of Meeth Agrawal and the entire team. Cheers!
Here's what Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain) has to say: "I guess I just want to get back to South Africa now, the calf is a bit sore. It was a poor showing from us today. Looking at how we finished the series against Australia, we really wanted to avoid a similar situation here, so there will definitely be discussions back in the dressing room.
Fielding is all about intensity, and we dropped some easy chances. It’s something we talk about with pride, so we’ll need to hold ourselves accountable. From a bowling point of view, we’ve been quite clinical up to this point, but conceding 20+ extras is not good enough. (On the batting performance) Chasing 400+ in this format, there’s no real formula. The boys had to take it on, and England put us under pressure, especially Jofra Archer, and we just didn’t have the answers to what they threw at us.
That said, there are still a lot of positives to take away, starting with a win in Australia and now here, considering we fielded a comparatively inexperienced side. There were plenty of shiny individual performances, and we have the belief that we’re moving in the right direction."
Time for some words with Harry Brook (England Captain): "Ultimate performance. We were awesome with the bat, put them under pressure under all times and the bowling speaks for itself. If we get on a wicket like that, there is no reason why we can't go for 400-450 with the kind of batters, we have, almost 7 openers, that is the blueprint we want. He (Bethell) is brilliant against spin so sending him at 4 helped us to hold their main man back for longer. Rooty is terrific, has been doing it for years and Jos has been brilliant as well. As a team, we want to keep moving forward, what has happened in the past is behind us now."
Keshav Maharaj wins the Player of the Series: "I feel like all the hard work is finally coming through. I’m grateful to contribute to the team’s success. The three venues posed three very different challenges, and today was definitely the toughest. Kudos to England for the way they played throughout the series.
We’ve got good skills and a strong team. There are a lot of positives to take away from this series, and to win 2-1 against England after such a long time is absolutely stupendous. We always try to put our best foot forward and take it one over at a time."
Jofra Archer is the Player Of The Match for his figures of 4/18, here are his words: "Before I even bowled a ball, I thought it would be a difficult job because we put 300 on the board. (Then he gets reminded they put 400 and he realizes). Didn't do anything different, tried to hit the pitch hard and keep it straight. Got to do it even if you have had a bad day. I did not think I was going to play this one because of the workload management but it is good to play three matches in a row."
Joe Root wins the England's Men's ODI Player of the Summer: "Obviously, it’s important to build partnerships on wickets like these. Once you get a 100+ partnership, it becomes tough for the bowlers to break through. Bethell knew exactly what he was doing and was clear on how he wanted to play. He had so many options to take on the bowlers. To play an innings like that and get us into that position was fantastic.(On his summer) It’s important to keep looking for ways to get better and improve, but also to use your experience and play to your strengths and advantages. I’ll continue working on the tiny little things. Today was a glimpse of what this team can do in this format. The more we play together, the better the results will get."

5:23 PM Local Time, 9:53 PM IST: MATCH SUMMARY
England (414/5) beat South Africa (72/9) by 342 runs
Two weeks ago, South Africa conceded 431 in a dead rubber ODI against Australia and lost by a huge margin of 276 runs which was their biggest defeat in ODI cricket but they have managed even worse and topped the charts overall as another dead rubber has seen them going down in dramatic fashion conceding the largest ever ODI defeat for any team.
Absolutely no contest, this is an embarrassing loss for the Proteas who simply did not turn up today at The Rose Bowl. Think they will have quite a few questions to answer even though they have won the series 2-1, second consecutive 2-1 series win for them but the same story has repeated itself after Australia and this is a worrying sign for South Africa.
415 was always going to be a huge mountain to climb but a surrender like this was unprecedented. South Africa were a batter short with skipper Temba Bavuma suffering from a left calf strain. They came up against Jofra Archer who was breathing fire and quite literally bowling thunderbolts one after the other as he rattled the visitors in his opening spell itself.
Markram fell in the first over, Mulder promoted to number three fell in the next. Jofra then got rid of three more before Carse picked another and South Africa were on the mat at 24/6 within the first 10 overs. Archer produced a remarkable first spell of 7.0-3-10-4 which completely blew South Africa away. Adil Rashid came in and did the cleaning up act as he picked up three cheap wickets towards the end and finished the job for England as they completed a historic and emphatic win.
Corbin Bosch has been dismissed for 20 runs off 32 balls
20.5 Adil Rashid to Corbin Bosch, GONE THIS TIME!!! DONE AND DUSTED!!! Full and on off, Bosch bends down and goes for the reverse sweep. Sends it straight into the hands of Carse at backward point. With Bavuma injured and not being able to come out to bat, this will effectively be SA's last wicket. ENGLAND WIN BY 342 RUNS - THE HIGHEST WIN MARGIN (BY RUNS) EVER IN ODI CRICKET!
20.4 Adil Rashid to Corbin Bosch, DROPPED? A fuller googly just outside off, Bosch inside edges uppishly to short mid wicket. Duckett dives to his right but couldn't collect it.
20.3 Adil Rashid to Corbin Bosch, good length on the leg side, hits Bosch on the front pad.
20.2 Adil Rashid to Corbin Bosch, full and flighted on the leg side, Bosch sweeps it to deep square leg. Denies the single again.
20.1 Adil Rashid to Corbin Bosch, fuller and outside off, spins away. Bosch punches it down to long off but opts against the single.
Archer only has 1 over remaining now, he has bowled 9. Bosch has managed to take a single off the final ball and keep the strike for the next over. Might just see him trying to take on Rashid.
