That will be all from our side as we draw the curtains on our coverage of this first Women's ODI between Australia and India. The Aussies cruised to an eight wicket win and India will have a lot of work to do before the second WODI. For now, it's Soumarya Dutta taking your leave on behalf of Pradeep. See you soon!
Urvil Kejwani: "Australia seem unbeatable but India have to pull up with their fielding. Also Pratika Rawal needs to work on her power game. She seems to go into a shell after getting a good start."
Phoebe Litchfield- " It was great to be out in the middle. Had a bit of luck early on and it was good to be batting with the skipper. I like batting and we've had a few good partnerships here. I've played hockey right handed and it has helped me with the reverse sweeps. Obviously there is a lot of practice involved. Our bowlers bowled really well on a good wicket as we kept them down to 280. We chased it down superbly so really proud of the group. "
Alyssa Healy (Australia Women Captain)- It's a great way to start the tour. Proud of the girls for the way they played after we had to bowl first in the heat. Taking wickets in the powerplay is important but if we don't get them then we have to keep things tidy. We've got plenty of options and that's a captains luxury. We want to push the limits while chasing and batting first. The same tempo should be there and Phoebe was brilliant. We managed to keep the same scoring rate throughout. (On Ellyse Perry's injury)- Yeah, she is fine.
Best Fielder of the Match- Ashleigh Gardner (Australia Women)
Striker of the Match- Phoebe Litchfield (Australia Women)
Harmanpreet Kaur [India captain]: "We were 20 or 30 runs short with the bat, our bowlers tried to create opportunities and we couldn't grab on the field. Overall a good cricket, they played better than us. Next game is important for us, stay positive and looking forward to the next game. Both the innings, it played batter and hence we scored 280 on the board. We could've been more positive with the bat, 30 or 40 more runs, would've been tough for them. We will try with whatever we have in the side, it was the best combination for us. Last series, against England, the spinners did well. As a fielding unit, we couldn't capitalise today."
The Post Match Presentation is coming up!
Annabel Sutherland [Australia]: "Nice to get a win, thank you. Felt like it was a pretty good wicket, was coming on nicely and we got the momentum back, we ran with it and was pleasing. We knew it was going to be heavy spin, assessing conditions and it was coming on nicely. Mooney and Phoebe played well, nice to see that."
Right so this has been an absolutely emphatic victory for the Australian Women and they've thrashed India by 8 wickets and 35 balls to spare. They've achieved the second highest successful run chase on Indian soil in ODI cricket in the process and they've barely broken any sweat. India were completely outplayed especially in the second innings as the fielders dropped as many as four chances and the bowlers failed to keep the runs under check. Beth Mooney and Annabel Sutherland saw the visitors home with a 116 runs unbeaten stand.
Australia Women started off well but Phoebe Litchfield gave India a chance early on. Jemimah Rodrigues at mid wicket shelled it and once that happened, the left hander began to dominate. Alyssa Healy also struck a flurry of boundaries from the other end before chopping one back on to the stumps of Goud. Australia Women did well in the powerplay to get to 58 and they actually managed to outscore India who had 55 at the same stage.
Post the powerplay, Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry started to take the ones and twos and picked up boundaries at will. Perry was dropped in the outfield by Pratika Rawal while Harmanpreet Kaur dropped Litchfield again once she had gone past her 50. The runs flowed for the Aussies and the pair went past the 50 run mark. Perry eventually went back retired hurt owing to cramps but Litchfield carried on. She built up a good stand with Beth Mooney but was finally dismissed for 88 by Sneh Rana. The target seemed well within reach for Australia at that stage with the run rate under control.
Mooney and Sutherland took their time after the dismissal of Litchfield as the run rate was under their control. Once they were well set, Mooney broke the shackles with a boundary and they began to come in plenty. The pair brought up 50 runs in less than 50 balls and Mooney got to her personal milestone as the Indian spinners persisted but struggled to keep the runs under check. Annabel Sutherland also began to launch a counter attack and brought up her 50 as the Aussies cruised to an easy victory in the end by 8 wickets.
Among the Indian bowlers, Sneh Rana was the pick of the lot as she got a wicket in her spell and went for only 51. She should have had Litchfield for almost nothing but Jemimah Rodrigues shelled a sitter. Kranti Goud picked up the Australian skipper Alyssa Healy but the rest of the bowlers could barely make any impact. Overall, it was a disappointing outing from India's point of view and the Indian girls will have a lot of work to do before the second game.
Australia Women win by 8 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
44.1 Shree Charani to Annabel Sutherland, GAME, SET AND MATCH! Australia thump India in this 1st ODI, takes 1-0 lead in the series. Absolutely clinical performance this from Australia, India have a lot to think about how things went about for them on the field. Sutherland shimmies down the wicket, launches it over the top of mid-off fielder, falls safely and they get back for the second to seal the deal.
Australia have just slowed down in the last few overs. They need two runs to win and are taking it easy. It should be a matter of time though with 36 balls remaining in the innings.
