Pretty interesting call to hand Jacks the Player of the Match award ahead of Rickelton and Bumrah. But it was his over that flipped this game on its head as he sent the dangerous Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant packing. He'd be a happy man that he doesn't have to face Bumrah outside the nets but the same can't be said about the rest of the competition. Mumbai Indians are peaking at the right time. And that often means that they go very deep into the tournament. They still have a fair way to go but they're certainly functioning like a well-oiled unit now. As for the Super Giants, they have work to do. Their net run-rate has taken a hit as well but they need to return to winning ways at the earliest in order to regain some momentum that they've lost over the last week.

Will Jacks is the Player of the Match for an excellent all-round performance (29 off 21, 2/18). Here's what he has to say: I'll always be a batter who bowls but my bowling is very important. Especially if I can do a good job for the team, it's very important to me. I've worked very hard on my bowling. I know I'm not a part-timer, it doesn't matter what everyone else says. I know I can do it and there are still improvements to be made. We know how important Pooran and then Pant are as well. They were going really well at that stage. An off-spinner to the left-handers, I know that it was important and once I got one wicket that was a relief and it put us in front in the game. (Does he see himself as a slayer of left-handers?) Maybe, I don't know (laughs). I feel I'll have to get more opportunities bowling to left-handers and I like it. I've really enjoyed my time here (at MI). They've been incredibly welcoming - the backroom staff, the coach and captain have all given me the confidence to be part of this family. As a team we're hitting the spot at the right time. We're finding a nice rhythm. We've got a lot more work to do and we've got to continue it in the next game. (On Bumrah) He's an incredible bowler. I've had the displeasure of facing him in the nets in the last few weeks and it's not enjoyable. I'm happy he's on my team. He's so incredibly skillful I think. You can't say how good he is really with words, he's just amazing to watch!

Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians captain): The momentum which we had, carrying that momentum and the way everyone is clicking has been fantastic. All credit to the atmosphere and the kids, they created that atmosphere for us. More than the team, we had to do it for them so very glad for that. The way everyone kept taking their chances - in the end as well. It looked like we might lose a few wickets but the way Bosch came in and smashed a few, Naman as well. Surya played an unbelievable innings. I can count everyone who came in and chipped in wonderfully and especially the bowlers - we knew we had to kill the game and we were spot on. Good teams are made about that where everyone comes in and chips in. Whenever the team needs them, they put their hands up. Everyone's chipping in which is fantastic. (On bowling just one over today) Whenever it's needed I bowl. Today I saw there was a chance for Bosch to come in and do what he does best. (Message to the team after five in a row) This competition is really tough. You cannot afford to get carried away. We as a team are aware of that. We always look forward and play good cricket, not really think about what's coming next but always prepare for the next game and keep continuing the momentum.

It's a super special day for me, it's my brother's birthday and it's a special day to make my debut today, don't think words can describe. Watto, someone I look up to being an all-rounder myself, aspired to become someone like him. Just wanted to make contact with bat and ball, once I made the contact, the nerves calmed down and was happy to get off the mark. Put in a lot of work with my bowling, back home and team management has helped me get better. I'm just happy to bat wherever team needs me, I'm happy to contribute. I could barely hear, the crowd has been fantastic, special day for kids, glad we could make it better for them."

The Mumbai Indians, led by team owner Nita Ambani, take a lap of honor to acknowledge the 19,000+ young underprivileged kids who have made their presence felt today. What a moment it must be for them to cherish for a lifetime, watching their heroes in action!

Rishabh Pant [Lucknow Super Giants captain]: "Felt as a team it was a right decision, we back ourselves to chase whatever the total that opposition put, it wasn't our day today. As a team, we made mistakes and we need to figure out as have the break at the right time. Credit should be given to the opposition as well who played good cricket. Keep it simple, not to think too much. When things not going your way, you can't question yourself and it's a team game, can't depend on individuals and blame them if they don't do well. Good to see Mayank coming back, the rhythm was there and hopefully he gets better in the games to come."

7:25 PM IST: Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs!

It was a chase that was on course for the Lucknow Super Giants even as deep as the 15th over. But then, Jasprit Bumrah happened and the rest is history. A dominant victory for the five-time champions who have now won five in a row and are increasingly looking like the team to beat in this competition!

It was set up by a solid batting display that saw the Mumbai Indians post 215 on the board - a total that seemed chaseable given the might that the Super Giants possessed with the bat. But despite a flying start with Mitchell Marsh smashing Deepak Chahar out of the ground, Bumrah removed Aiden Markram early. It looked like a completely different pitch when he was operating as LSG found it difficult to put him away - nothing new there of course for facing Bumrah is the biggest task any batter can ask for in the current era! But Nicholas Pooran tore into Chahar for 20 runs off the final powerplay over to state his intentions clearly.

The game was in the balance but the move to bring Will Jacks on paid off. Hardik Pandya placing Suryakumar Yadav straighter than the usual long off position worked a charm as Pooran bit the dust before skipper Rishabh Pant followed two deliveries later. LSG weren't going to throw the towel in though with Ayush Badoni tearing into Karn Sharma to ensure that the asking rate wouldn't get out of hand. With Marsh going strong at the other end, Hardik needed somebody outside Bumrah to produce wickets on demand.

And that's precisely what Trent Boult did. He removed Marsh before returning shortly after to outfox the dangerous-looking Badoni with a slower one. With David Miller looking the part today though, 70 off the last five overs did not seem an impossible task by any means. That's when Bumrah happened as he got Miller to hole out before two searing yorkers crashed into the poles to send Abdul Samad and Avesh Khan packing off consecutive deliveries. Post that, there was just no coming back.

What could have been a close game eventually ended in a massive 54-run win for Mumbai that has sent their net run-rate skyrocketing even further. They are second on the table now with 12 points despite having played two games extra and a playoff spot certainly looks realistic looking at the kind of form they've shown. For LSG, that's two convincing losses on the trot and they need to get back to the drawing board to put things on track. They needed a couple of big knocks today but with none of their batters going on to convert their starts, a target of 216 was always going to be challenging to usurp. What a fitting end to the contest! Boult ends with a deserved third wicket and that's the 16th time that the Mumbai Indians have successfully defended 200+. They maintain a 100 per cent record on that front and rise to second on the points table with a fifth straight win!
