Following the introduction of the sniffer, players have speculated about the potential for other ancient mobs. Mojang always strives to introduce a new mechanic whenever a mob is added to Minecraft. These ideas aim to expand the game with fresh mechanics, unique items, and, occasionally, new biomes.

With archeology at the heart of these concepts, players will find more reasons to use brushes and uncover long-hidden secrets. Slowly incorporating such mobs could spark discussions among players, foster creativity, and deepen Minecraft lore.

5 ancient mob ideas that bring unique features and interactions to the game

1) Raptor-like Pet

A raptor is obtained similar to the sniffer but can be found anywhere in suspicious sand or gravel. It has a 0.2% chance of being found using the brush on it. Once hatched, it can be fed any meat to be tamed and bred similarly.

Using armadillo scutes, you can create raptor armor that can be upgraded with the scales of another ancient mob, which will be described next. The mob can also drop ancient teeth, which can be used to make bone meal or a dagger. The new weapon can be stacked and thrown to cause damage.

These mobs will make archaeology more interesting and useful.

2) Ankylosaur-like Mob

Another ancient mob obtained similar to the sniffer. This mob, when hatched, will grow to be double the size of a Minecraft cow. It is rideable and can carry a dog, villager, or another player, but it is slow. It can be tamed with grass and bred as well using grass.

The mob will drop a few scales once every in-game day, and more can be collected when a brush is used. These scales can be used to make raptor or wolf armor upgrades, or a player armor set can also be made. The player's armor provides the same level of protection as iron armor.

3) Cockatrices

They are mythological creatures that are a mix of roosters and a dragon. This mob is also found in the Ice and Fire mod. Chickens in the mod have a small chance of laying a rotten egg, which hatches into a cockatrice. But our version of the mob will work differently.

Like mules in Minecraft, it’s a hybrid of two other species. When you leave a raptor and a chicken in a closed space, there is a 20% chance of finding a new kind of egg after three in-game days. This mob will act similar to a dog, defending the player when taken along. The raptor armor can also be equipped but will have an extra feature.

4) A Furry Mammal

This ancient mob can be found deep underground where you can obtain a new block called amber, found in a biome called Paleo Caves. The amber block will have a bone ore-like variant. Once you break the ore, you can obtain a furry bone. Once 20 furry bones are collected, they can be revived.

The furry mammals are similar to sheep; they grow fur, and it can be harvested. This can be used to craft a new type of armor when combined with scales. This armor will break faster if exposed to fire but is equivalent to diamond armor. It has another benefit: it reduces fall damage and can negate sonic booms from the Warden.

5) End Devourer

Inspired by the great hunger, this ancient mob is different. It can be found in the End dimension. When a brush is used on a suspicious endstone, you will receive the end devourer’s egg. This mob will eat anything you throw at it and have two functions.

When anything other than endstone is fed, it will eat until it is full. Afterward, you can throw any weapon, tool, or armor, and it will consume the item and return it. The returned item will have a blue glow and include the word "coated" in its name. This item will have doubled durability.

The second use is feeding the mob exclusively endstone. Once done, it will begin eating specific items like furry bones. Feeding it 20 furry bones will revive the furry mammal.
