Minecraft is a game played by millions with a flourishing community, third-party content, and mods. In many ways, it is one of Microsoft’s most valuable assets and the company is working to make the experience even better. A recent tweet from the official Microsoft Copilot handle showcased how they are planning to integrate artificial intelligence into the game.

The appeal of Minecraft is the exploration of the world, learning how to make stuff, mine rare items, and combine different things to make new items. But with the integration of AI in the game, things can change. Whether it is for the better or the worse remains to be seen. For now, here’s everything about how AI works in the game and what it could lead to.

Microsoft Copilot AI in Minecraft

Thinking of AI getting into gaming seems bizarre and rightly so; games are meant to be a source of recreation and the full control of the game should always be in the hands of the players. The addition of AI is redundant at best and negative at worst.

But from what the video shows, Microsoft may understand the importance of giving the steering to the player. In the short video showing the gameplay with the AI, it looks interesting.

The video shows the AI being aware of what’s happening on the screen; it can be seen that the player is playing Minecraft. Not just that, it can also detect what the player is holding and all the possible things they can do with it. Subsequently, it guides the player to find stone or wood to proceed with building the next thing.

So in a way, the Copilot AI in the game is a glorified hints mode that can see what the player is doing and give the right response accordingly. This does not mean that what Microsoft has done is not impressive. This AI companion in the game can be great for newcomers.

Not just for first-time players, the AI in the game has some other merits as well. Since the AI can see what’s happening on the screen, perhaps Microsoft can make it into a bug-fixing AI that helps in sorting out issues that would require the player to look for answers in forums and guides.

It would be interesting to see what Microsoft comes up with as the technology develops. Till the time we wait for Minecraft 1.21 update, one can hardly expect what would come next for the game.
