Kenan Song received his nickname, 'The Assassin,' from one of his teachers.

Song holds a professional MMA record of 19-6, with seventeen wins coming inside the distance, nine by KO/TKO and eight by submission. The 32-year-old revealed to the UFC that he got his nickname ‘The Assassin’ from one of his teachers/coaches, who felt it best represented his fighting style.

The Chinese-born fighter made his pro-MMA debut in July 2014, winning his first seven fights, including six inside the distance. He then suffered a minor setback, losing two of his next three fights, with one of his losses coming against Israel Adesanya. ‘The Assassin’ bounced back with six more wins, all inside the distance, before losing two consecutive fights.

Song advanced his record to 15-4 with a rare scissor choke in February 2017, punching his ticket to the UFC. While training at the UFC Performance Institute in China, he quickly became a fighter to watch by winning his first two UFC fights inside the distance against Bobby Nash and Hector Aldana.

‘The Assassin’ suffered another minor setback with a unanimous decision loss against Alex Morono. He went on to defeat Derrick Krantz and Callan Porter before losing his last fight against Max Griffin in the first round. The Chinese-born fighter looks to bounce back on the UFC 285 preliminary card, which goes down inside the T-Mobile Arena.

Who is Kenan Song fighting at UFC 285?

On March 4, Jon Jones hopes to become the UFC heavyweight champion against former interim title holder Ciryl Gane. Before the highly-anticipated main event, UFC 285 fight card is filled with highly-touted prospects and action-packed fighters. During the preliminary card, Kenan Song looks to get back on track against rising superstar Ian Garry.

Garry holds an undefeated record of 10-0, including three wins under the UFC banner. The Ireland native has made a name for himself with his claims of being the next Irish superstar, drawing inspiration from Conor McGregor.

Although Garry is a massive betting favorite, Song has the finishing ability to change things quickly at UFC 285. Only time will tell which welterweight can emerge victorious.
