Former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez is currently out on $1 million bail, awaiting trial after being incarcerated for 253 days this year. Velasquez recently revealed intimate details about his time spent in custody during an appearance on the 'Keepin’ It 100' podcast with former pro wrestler Konnan.

'Cardio Cain' stated that his incarceration was in protective custody with only a few other inmates. According to Velasquez, the time spent in jail is a double-edged sword. The former UFC champ said:

"They had me in protective custody. It was very low-key. Only a few people that I was able to kind of hang out with. I guess the good thing about it is you’ve got a lot of alone time with yourself, and the bad thing about it was you’ve got a lot of alone time with yourself."

Velasquez was arrested in February after allegedly firing at the vehicle of Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting the former UFC champ's 4-year-old son. The 40-year-old was released on bail by Judge Arthur Bocanegra in November after multiple appeals were turned down by another judge.

Cain Velasquez is grateful for the support he received during incarceration

The entire combat sports community unanimously kept rallying for Cain Velasquez's release since the day he was arrested. Dana White appealed to a judge for Velasquez's release, while Derek Brunson contributed to the former UFC champ's legal fees, to cite a few examples.

The former WWE star is grateful for the widespread support he received during his toughest time. Velasquez further said on the 'Keepin’ It 100' podcast:

“I did [hear about the support], and I have, and I just want to thank everyone. I truly appreciate everyone’s support in all of it. It means so much to me. It gave me a lot of strength when I was in there. I feel it and I just want thank everybody forever for that.”

Cain Velasquez acknowledged that he had both positive and negative thoughts while in custody. However, the 40-year-old insists that we must learn to focus on the best-case scenario, irrespective of how bad a corner we're in.
