Dune Awakening is currently one of the most popular MMOs, with hundreds of thousands of players online at a time. The game features five regions, each containing Worlds and Sietches. This is where things can get confusing when it comes to the player count and server capacity.
The Sietches are contained within Worlds, which are data centers across each region and can hold thousands of players, but there’s a catch. This article aims to explain the difference between the two and how players are divided into servers.
Dune Awakening servers and player count explained
When it comes to server structure, Dune Awakening takes a somewhat unique approach. MMOs typically contain multiple servers across each region. Players pick the one closest to them for better latency.

For Dune, Funcom has established data centers called Worlds, similar to servers, and these Worlds are made of multiple Sietches. A single World can hold up to 1000+ players at a time, which are then divided into Sietches.
Each Sietch is a server that can hold hundreds of player characters, but only 40 players will be able to join the server at a time. Sietches are identical to each other, meaning if a player selects Sietch 1 and another selects Sietch 2, there will be no difference in their gameplay content.
Apart from Sietches, Worlds also contain Social Hubs like Arrakeen and Harko Village, along with the Deep Desert. The Social Hubs are shared instances that can hold a large number of players. The Deep Desert is a PvP zone that can hold over 500 players.
Can you join different Worlds and Sietches?

What happens if a server is full? In a situation like this, there are two options: players can either wait in a queue to join when there’s space, or play on a different server. So yes, you can join other Sietches.
This is helpful when a player has friends playing on different servers. Both of them can join each other’s Hagga Basin while retaining their character progress. However, the same isn't true for Worlds.
While one can join Sietches freely, this can only be done within the same World. This means player A from World 1 cannot join player B from World 2. To do that, player A will need to create a new character in World 2.
Another limitation of playing across servers is the building ability. A player can only build and upgrade their base in the Sietch where they started playing. They will be able to do everything else on different servers, except for building another base.
