Farming is one of the main gameplay aspects of Luma Island, especially for players pursuing the Cook or Brewer professions. It provides vital ingredients for crafting, meals, drinks, and as well as provides steady income. Farming involves planting, maintaining and harvesting crops, managing animals, defending against critters, and after a certain point, automation.
In this guide, we have shared everything you will need to know to start farming on Luma Island.
How to start farming on Luma Island
To begin farming, you'll need essential tools: a Hoe for tilling soil, a Watering Can for watering crops, a Kiln for crafting fertilizer, and an Axe to remove crops and take their seeds.

To plant seeds, first use the Hoe to till the soil. However, keep in mind that uneven terrain near cliffs or water cannot be terraformed. Seeds can be purchased from the Farmer's Shop or unlocked by harvesting crops. Everseed variants are available at Mushroom Shops in exchange for tokens.
How to plant and grow your crops on Luna Island
Start by tilling the soil with the Hoe, planting seeds in the prepared spots, and watering them daily using a Watering Can or sprinklers. Water them regularly, as crops stop growing if not hydrated daily. Some crops require fertilizer, crafted in the Kiln using wood. Fertilizers are essential for regrowing crops and can be manually applied or automatically dispensed by sprinklers.

Protect your crops from weeds by manually pulling them or using Rabbits in Rabbit Hutches to remove them automatically. Critters can be dealt with by placing Chickens in Coops, while foxes can be deterred by fencing farmland or housing Goats in Sheds.
How to automate farming in Luma Island
Automation becomes a necessity once you start expanding your farm. Small and large sprinklers automate watering and fertilizing, covering areas of 7x7 and 9x9, respectively. Beehives are essential for endgame crops, affecting a 9x9 area — they also produce Honey. They are crafted using Queen Bees, found by cutting trees or purchased from the Farmer's Shop.
Place the animal shelters strategically to have them work on your crops without needing much managing. Each of the animals you place on your farm will have a special benefit:
Animals and their benefits
- Rabbit ($1,000): Eats weeds.
- Chicken ($1,500): Removes critters; drops Chicken Eggs.
- Goat ($5,000): Chases foxes; drops Goat Milk.
- Cow ($25,000): Provides Cow Milk.
- Pig ($15,000): Digs up fertilizer and Ginger.
Trees and regrowing crops:
Trees like Mango and Starfruit grow without replanting while regrowing crops like Grapes require fertilizer after each harvest. Endgame crops, such as Pumpkins and Cocoa Beans, demand Beehives to grow.
That’s all for our farming guide, we hope this helps you get an idea about one of the main gameplay aspects of Lum Island.
