Robert Arthur Allison, aka Bobby Allison is among the 75 Greatest Drivers of NASCAR in 2023 and the original list of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. He is also a part of numerous Hall of Fames that include the NASCAR Hall of Fame (2011 inductee), the Motorsports Hall of Fame (1993 inductee) and the Motorsports Hall of Fame America (1992 inductee).

He has 84 race wins in his NASCAR career (as claimed by NASCAR). According to Allison, however, he has registered 85 wins (via NASCAR Hall). He claimed his final title in 1983 by winning the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and becoming a NASCAR champion.

Allison has also claimed seven Most Popular Driver of the Year awards. He is also famous for being involved in a fist fight with Cale Yarborough at the 1979 Daytona 500. It led to him being fined by NASCAR.

Bobby Allison Wins

Bobby Allison has 84 Cup Series victories credited to his name throughout his career with the former driver himself arguing that he has one more. Allison has multiple victories in nearly every “Crown Jewel” race. He won the Daytona 500 thrice, in 1978, 1982 and 1988. Allison has claimed four victories in the Southern 500 race in 1971, 1972 1975 and 1983.

He also won the World 600 (later renamed as the Coca-Cola 600) and the Winston 500 (a prestigious race during the Winston Cup Series era) races thrice. Bobby Allison also won two victories in the Nationwide Series which went on to form the Xfinity Series.

He claimed his first victory at the 1966 Maine 100 and his last victory at the 1988 Daytona 500 in his NASCAR career.

Bobby Allison Top-10s

Bobby Allison has secured 446 Top-10 finishes with 59 poles in the NASCAR Cup Series complemented by 22 Top-10 finishes in the Nationwide Series. Allison raced in the Cup for 25 years participating in 718 races. His first full time season in NASCAR was the 1967 Grand National Championship.

Allison drove for many teams throughout the season and ended up fourth in the driver’s championship with five wins under his belt. He quit NASCAR Cup Series mid-season in 1988 after a horrific crash at the Miller High Life 500. Allison was initially declared dead on reaching the hospital but he regained consciousness and recovered after entering a rehab program.
