
Robert Glenn Johnson Jr., also known as Junior Johnson, was an American professional stock car racing driver, team owner, engineer, and entrepreneur. Johnson won over 50 races in the NASCAR Cup Series with 148 top-10 finishes. Being inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (1990) and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (1991), Johnson won the NASCAR championship three times with Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip.
Throughout his career, Johnson achieved many titles and awards. He was named one of the NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. On May 23, 2010, Johnson was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He was also a part of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. Johnson had a stretch of highway named after him in 2004, an 8.5-mile stretch of the U.S. Highway 421 from the Yadkin and Wilkes county line to the Windy Gap exit, the Junior Johnson Highway.
